ORLANDO, Fla. - Many people signing up for health care in Florida through the Affordable Care Act have been shocked when they have to give proof of their credit score before they finish the process.

Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government's website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

HA!!!!!

One of BO’s most ardent supporters, a hateful, detestable woman I worked with, who called anyone who didn’t like him a racist, filed for bankruptcy and is in massive debt again.

Love it when the hammer comes down on their toes.

the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

Wait - the government forces you to have insurance, but the insuring agency can deny you on the basis of your credit score?

The poorest affected most!! Isn't that what the liberals scream when they perceive a "right" is being taken away?

It would seem that a product one is required to buy, that someone is required to sell regardless of credit. This is designed to fail and bring in single payer.

I have yet to hear a logical reason for insurance companies snooping into your credit score. Auto insurance, maybe on the grounds that a poor credit score is an indicator of a propensity for taking risks. Life insurance, maybe on the grounds that a poor credit score in an indicator for suicide. That's a big stretch.

But too much of a stretch for home owner's or health insurance.

“Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government’s website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.”

What? I thought that this was the “affordable” care act to insure all the “poor” people that could not afford insurance? I think that by definition poor would go hand in hand with a low credit score. If you don’t have the money to buy something on time payments and are able to make those payments timely you will never have a good credit score. Or like my Mother who pays in cash in full so has no credit.

So, this FREE healthcare system is two to three times as expensive as the previous system. And this UNIVERSAL coverage is deniable at will. And this POVERTY-TARGETED coverage denies people in poverty based on credit scores.

Do I have it about right, or is there more?

Last I heard, everything was the ‘Right Wing Nutjobs’ fault but, I am sure she has often used the sexually crude democrap term for Tea Party Members.

“Do I have it about right, or is there more?”

It was a very short article without a lot of detail. This is the first I’ve heard of a credit score being part of the process. If true...just wow.

I believe — without being authoritative here — that it still depends on state laws. In my state credit scores can not be used to determine health insurance eligibility or premiums either before or after ACA. In addition, I ran lots of applicant simulations on my state exchange and never once did ‘credit score’ come up.

I suspect many low information voters have bad credit scores.

So does this mean no insurance????

Republicans need to hold on until people can get on these websites and try to sign up.

Or maybe that is the reason they aren’t working right now.
