Barack Obama: 'So proud' Illinois passes same-sex marriage law

President Obama is "so proud" that lawmakers in his home state of Illinois have voted to legalize same-sex marriage, he said Tuesday night.

"I applaud the men and women of the Illinois General Assembly, a body in which I was proud to serve, for voting to legalize marriage equality in my home state," Obama said in a statement released after the state House and Senate voted earlier in the day. The White House had previously said that Obama would have supported the measure if he were still in the legislature.

When I lived in Indiana, for several years conservatives were trying to get a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. And the response from the social libertines across the political spectrum was always, "We have much bigger issues! Gay marriage is not a problem right now and it's not what we should be focused on!"

Of course once the leftists control things they pass whatever legislation they deem appropriate, whether it's a "pressing issue" or not. Illinois is a great example. In a state with huge fiscal problems they're taking time to make sure homosexuals can get married. And I have friends in Illinois - dems of course - who are actually celebrating this, like it's a big accomplishment. Meanwhile the state continues to sink. It's utter lunacy.
