"Not only was it smashed, it spent over $10,000,000 to try to pass."

Much of which was provided by the failed Mayor of New York, Michael "the Fascist" Bloomberg (who also funded the campaign to stop the recall of government worshipers John Morse and Angela Giron).

You mean there might actually be hope for us here in downstate Illinois, too?

Same boat here on Lake of Egypt. Chicago can go F itself. Thought about either joining Kentucky or Indiana.

Yes, but the fact that Virginia was then in a state of rebellion made a difference.

Note that I never used the terms “red state” or “blue state” in my posting.

I'm glad to see that as California keeps getting bashed here on FR by no nothings that think the entire state is blue. It isn't. Huge areas of the state are very rural and very conservative. Where I live, almost everyone owns guns and there are no murders.

Not only was it smashed, it spent over $10,000,000 to try to pass. I don’t know what the anti-tax side spent, but I’d guess less than a million.

Bill Gates dumped a lot of money for the pro-tax folks. Billionaires forcing you to pay higher income taxes.

I believe I can speak for my colleagues in that the Commonwealth of Kentucky will welcome you with open arms.

Except for the Democratic governor. F him too.

They can secede anytime they like. F DC.

Your tagline reads "Roberts has perverted the Constitution." Ironically, you're the one who obviously hasn't read the Constitution if you think counties can secede willy nilly. The process for new states being carved out of larger states is explicitly stated in the Constitution. You might read it one of these days -- it's a good read!

I do not believe that Virginia had a say when West Virginia was made up out of whole cloth.

Not true. The split was approved by the Virginia legislature -- or what the Federal Government recognized as the Virginia legislature, "The Restored Government of Virginia" which was based in what is now Wheeling, West Virginia. The Constitutionality of the split, while dubious at the time, was nevertheless upheld by the US Supreme Court in 1871 and is settled law.

I don't believe that's true. The Red River Compact was approved by Congress as well as the legislatures of TX and OK.

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress. (IV.iii.)

There is no "new" in the bolded part. So if those counties joined Wyoming, Wyoming would have been formed by the junction of two or more states or parts of states. Thus, it would require consent of Congress, the legislature of Colorado and the legislature of Wyoming.

Another alternative is for these Colorado counties to become part of a neighboring state. No federal permission required, only a shifting of state boundaries and permission of the nearby state to join them.

Knock knock...Hello Texas. I have an idea.....

Oooohh....goood point. Texas has the argument that consent of Congress has already been granted.
