Weekend Report: Burgundy Beaten by Bilbo
Box Office Mojo ^ | 12/22/13 | Ray Subers

Posted on 12/23/2013 3:49:39 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues had a solid debut this weekend, though it wasn't strong enough to take first place away from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Among the other new releases, American Hustle got off to a great start, while Saving Mr. Banks and Walking with Dinosaurs disappointed.

Overall, it was a very good weekend at the box office—the Top 12 earned $137.3 million, which is up a whopping 37 percent from the same weekend last year. Unless all five Christmas Day releases bomb, the 2013 box office is now guaranteed to top last year's $10.84 billion record.

Classical storytelling beats out tired SNL alum 2 hour sketch.

Will F was funny once upon a time. Now he just seems dull.

Maybe his extremist liberal "comedy" site funnyordie, has also caused me to look at him with a jaundiced eye.

OT, but no matter how poor, desperate and bad things get or will get, people will always entertain themselves, and they will buy prescription drugs.

I hear anchorman "Ron Burgundy" is interviewing for an on-screen partner.

Meet "Snag Polyester."

We saw “Saving Mr. Banks” Friday night. WARNING! Although this film is addressed and advertised in a light hearted way, it is very serious and rather deep.

It’s well done, but very sad. You may need tissues.

I love a good tear-jerker. Thanks for the “warning” to bring tissues, you’re right, the ads are light hearted.

I stopped watching any of these after the first LOTR movie(which I found to be fairly good) because I do not like the politics of Peter Jackson. What he did with the visually spectacular but loaded with leftist baggage, King Kong, was reprehensible. the original KK, as dated as it is, still is the best. the 70s Jessica Lang vehicle was laughable and like I already said...the Jackson version was gorgeous, Andy Serkis is a genius. but Jack Black was horribly miscast along with Adrien Brody. and the characters were either wimps, faggots(perhaps pedophile faggots), self absorbed melancholy ridden types or dyed skin zombies. Heroism was cleansed from the original Willis O’Brien Merian C. Cooper vehicle, by Jackson in this remake except when Jackson made into a caricature to be mocked, along with Jackson’s pperceived view of racism that he seemed to be apologizing for(apologizing for the 1933 movie).

so I will not give Jackson any more money than he already has pilfered from me......especially when JRR Tolkien who was a highly religious Christian would be horrified to find a Leftist tampering with his masterwork.

What I want to know is when did SNL gain a monopoly on comedy films in this country? And why is just about every SNL cast member, no matter how bad, given their own personal “comedy movie”? And why are leftist SNL members constantly being given awards like leftist Tina Fey being given the Mark Twain prize for humor? A prize usually reserved for legendary comedians like Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, Jonathan Winters? Why was she given that award before Carol Burnett? Johnny Carson? Jerry Seinfeld? Do they mean to tell me Tina Fey is a greater comedian than all of them? Or maybe it’s a pathetic attempt to give credence to her pathetic Sarah Palin imitation?

“Weekend Report: Burgundy Beaten by Bilbo”

Since I do not do movies, this headline confused the holy K-Rap out of me.
I thought that Bilbo was maybe a movie about Theodore Bilbo.

wimps, faggots(perhaps pedophile faggots)

When you use schoolyard insults like "faggot" its demeaning and an attempt to take someone dignity. Not to meantion what difference does it make if the person is homosexual in a movie. If you take such exception to gays I guess you should never go to any retail establishment, restaurant, watch most TV shows, have your wife or GF get her hair cut, etc, etc, etc. Love the sinner hate the sin brother. Using the word "faggot" kind of displays your an idiot. I'd lose that filthy word form your vocabulary if you want anyone outside your family to really take you seriously.

especially when JRR Tolkien who was a highly religious Christian would be horrified to find a Leftist tampering with his masterwork

Tolkien was NOT religious you are confusing him with his contemporary C.S. Lewis and Lewis would take exception to being called religious, he was a devout Christian but a not very religious.

I read somewhere that Mr. Banks crew reported that the movie was a gross distortion of the facts.

Perhaps you are wasting you time here at FR. there is a plethora of things you could do to occupy your time like protesting Phil Robertson for his homophobic insensitivity. (Sarc off)

These people are destroying the fabric of our nation and you are an enabler. GFY.

I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it wasn’t perfect by any means but close enough for me to love watching it (multiple times)
But the Hobbit?? I saw the first one....ok. The second one....dumb and contrived. The book was good enough PJ, you didn’t have to, ahem, “improve” on it!!!!
In other words, the second one wasn’t any good.

You’re not missing anything by skipping The Hobbit II; it strayed far from the script, and instead of using filler like The Hobbit I (that described current events only discussed later in The Lord of the Rings), The Hobbit II was rife with useless PC filler and outright inaccuracies intended to stretch it to 3 movies (I always wondered how they made that little book into 3 long movies - mystery solved).

BTW, the first Hobbit movie was pretty good.
