“My gunner and I began laying down fire when I got hit,” Chance said. “My squad sergeant, who had been directing our fire, also got hit in the head and went down.”

Sometimes I chuckle, sometimes I cringe.

I'm quite certain that, despite the quotation marks, Chance did not say "my squad sergeant". He said either, my squad leader or my team leader. But, the ignorant journalist for an official Army web page says squad sergeant and the Command Sergeant Major doesn't check the story before it's posted.

Sadly, accuracy is not a gold standard in journalism. Editors are nothing more than glorified spell checkers. Even “fake but accurate” wasn’t accurate.
