Gates: for Obama, War is 'about Getting Out' Former defense secretary says Obama was convinced

In a new memoir, former US defense secretary Robert Gates delivered bruising opinions about President Barack Obama’s leadership in the Afghanistan war. Gates said that by early 2010 he had concluded the president “doesn’t believe in his own strategy, and doesn’t consider the war to be his. For him, it’s all about getting out.”

In what the Washington Post called “one of the more serious charges that a defense secretary could make against a commander in chief sending forces into combat,” Gates observed that Obama was very pessimisic regarding his own strategy in Afghanistan. The president was “skeptical if not outright convinced it would fail,” Gates wrote in “Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War.”

“I never doubted Obama’s support for the troops, only his support for their mission,” Gates explained.

Despite his criticism of Obama, he maintained that the president's chief Afghanistan policies were sound ones. “I believe Obama was right in each of these decisions,” Gates stated.

“It is rare for a former Cabinet member,

Is this really a surprise revelation? Wasn’t it always known that Obama wanted out of Afghanistan?

I thought Obama said Iraq was a distraction and the real war was in Afghanistan.

Obama largely just continued with the existing war plan— even as the situation on the ground changed out from underneath him. He actually had a defensible exit point after the killing of bin laden. There was a point there where he could have made a big show out of Al-Queda being beaten down, capabilities degraded, personnel thinned down, and the organization decapitated. Time was ripe to end our work in Afghanistan, step back and review the options for continuation of the work against Islamic terror.

Why he didn’t is a mystery to me. Clearly he wanted out, and he had the chance handed to him on a platter.

McNamara knew the war in Viet Nam could not be won yet he continued to send young men to their deaths without speaking up. I put Gates in the same category. He should have resigned in protest in 2010 and maybe we wouldn’t have got the SOB for another four years.

Getting Out of Afghanistan by the fascist clown Barak Obama??

Obama would never admit that George W.’s surge in Iraq worked. He wanted out then as a Senator on behalf of his iggie Muslim buddies.

So why is every body surprised at what Gates said? Its a known truth. Most of us here of FR knew Obama was a treasonous, fascist libtard from the get go from the way he operated as a Senator in Kenya in 2006/2007 in support of the Muslim radical Orange Party of Kenya, and his alleged cousin Rial Odinga, in violation of the Logan Act.

Obama is a facscist born and bred.A truth that the RINO led GOP is unwilling to face. A truth defined by the history of fascism according to the tests established by historians such as Winston Churchill ( the reason why Obama removed Churchills bust from the oval office during his first few days after being inaugurated.)
