One CIA Lawyer Could've Stopped Waterboarding Before It Started, Here's Why He Didn't
ABC News ^ | January 31, 2014 | By LEE FERRAN

On Sept. 11, 2001, while a hijacked plane was still unaccounted for, the CIA headquarters was evacuated.

But like several officers and analysts in the building, John Rizzo, one of the Agency's top attorneys at the time, didn't move. Instead, took out a yellow legal pad and began drafting the legal justifications for what he had already predicted would be a "full-scale assault on al Qaeda [which would] employ all means necessary to prevent any further attacks on the homeland."

... But it was down to Rizzo to decide how far American interrogators could go, and his decision would affect the way America would conduct its War on Terror for years.

Rizzo said he considered the "nightmare scenario" in which another attack strikes the homeland and Zubaydah "gleefully tells his CIA handlers he knew all about it."

"In the final analysis, I could not countenance the thought of having to live with that," he writes.

Of course it’s torture. But so what? Torture works and is justified in this case.

The torture, abuse, and murder of a POW named Momar Gaddafi was a war crime and an unprovoked attack.

Lanny Davis was on the radio this week berating some conservative talk show host about how cool it was when Hillary Clinton took him down (and she boasted at the time, "WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!!!").

This antiwar rhetoric isn't even sincerely held belief. The far left was okay with Palestinian suicide bombers who killed Jews with the only weapons they had "their bodies, (cry cry sob)".

ABCDisney can go screw. They are anti-American and pro-sodomite.

I have no problem with waterboarding or setting the terrorists on fire.

Most anyone who has been through SERE has been waterboarded. In intelligence, I participated in numerous mock and real interrogations. It is not torture.

Water boarding is not torture and every elected official should be water boarded at least once.

How can waterboarding be torture, which it isn’t, while Ø’s SOTU is not considered torture, which it is?

And there I was, former active duty JAG, assuring my mom and all others who wanted to exclaim about it that it couldn’t be true, that America didn’t believe in torture, that all confessions gained from torture were inherently unreliable and I came out looking like a damn fool.

I hate the people that went along with the torture, they should all be run out of town on a rail. They were complete idiots, evil and bad and I despise them.

They don't understand that.

There are a number of things you can do to people that are unpleasant but they are not torture.

Unfortunately people have now equated uncomfortable and unpleasant with torture.

They are also under the ill informed and stupid ideas that "torture doesn't work" and "information gained by torture is unreliable". Torture does work very well and the information so gained is as reliable as any gained by less extreme but more time consuming measures.

I seriously wonder if the majority of the people in our country have become too civilized to actually maintain civilization.

King Barack “I’m really good at killing people.” Obama has killed many more people than American security forces have killed with waterboarding.
