Former Bloomberg Ally Says ‘Mayors’ Group’s Goal Is Gun Confiscation
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | February 6, 2014 | Staff

A former member of Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group claimed this week that the group’s objectives are far more radical than it has let on.

John Tkazyik, the mayor of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., said he quit the former New York City mayor’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, after he realized its objective was outright confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens.

“Under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intend[s] to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens,” Tkazyik wrote in a Wednesday column in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

I’m the mayor of one of the largest cities in the Hudson Valley, just 90 minutes north of New York City. I’m a life member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, or MAIG, started by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2006.

I’m no longer a member of MAIG. Why? Just as Ronald Reagan said of the Democratic Party, it left me. And I’m not alone: Nearly 50 pro-Second Amendment mayors have left the organization. They left for the same reason I did. MAIG became a vehicle for Bloomberg to promote his personal gun-control agenda — violating the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens and taking resources away from initiatives that could actually work to protect our neighborhoods and save precious lives. […]

It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns; that under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens. I don’t believe, never have believed and never will believe that public safety is enhanced by encroaching on our right to bear arms, and I will not be a part of any organization that does.

Thanks for clarifying that for us, Bloomberg. (sarcasm)

Doesn’t every anti-gun movement have gun confiscation as its final objective?

“Bloomberg and Soros - like two peas in a pod.”

Yup, and they are typical leftist elitists, and they embrace tyranny like an aphrodisiac.

They are so hot-to-trot to disarm the American people? Then they should have the balls to undertake the confiscations themselves, instead of sending some civil servants out to do their bidding. Man up, Mike and George, and personally show up on the doorsteps of the American people, and demand they hand over their firearms to you.

You see how they are destroying Chris Christie over this bridge closing? Bloomberg did the same exact thing, only he did it to practically the entire city of New York out of revenge after the city council rejected his congestion pricing. He closed down streets, had streets cut in half, approved every street repair imaginable, anything and everything to make traffic as bad as humanly possible, and he did it for YEARS. I point this out because in this country corruption is apparently OK for those who are billionaires.

You think either one would have the b@lls to confront a legal gun owner and try to confiscate their firearms?

Neither of them is fit to breath air. They are wastes of skin.

The next step after gun confiscation will be shipping people off to the camps.

Since you'll be marked for death at that point anyway, might as well go down fighting.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” ― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Of course - and this goes without saying - the Mayors won't be doing the confiscation personally. No, they'll be sending paid lackeys out to do the confiscation for them.

The lackeys will be doing something else for the Mayors too, but the specifics of that will become clear at the time the attempted confiscation actually takes place.

“life member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns”
I’m calling BS. Anybody joining the commie mayor’s group knew exactly what kind of group it was. All they had to do is look around at who the other members were.
They never were against “illegal guns”, they were trying to make guns illegal. NRA Life Member my a$$!

Absolutely.

Until I saw the fools line up for registration in CT, I had hopes that attempts at confiscation would ignite resistance, even rebellion. I no longer see it that way. Apparently, even most firearm owners are sheeple.

Confiscation is the ultimate goal of most gun control efforts.
