Every American, regardless of their political affiliation, must distinguish those who represent the free-enterprise system based on personal responsibility and equal treatment from those who are willing to give away our personal freedom in order to enhance the size and scope of the government.

You say "regardless of their political affiliation", Dr. Carson, but the problem is that at least one-and-one-half of the two major political parties in this country are actively opposed to a free-enterprise system based on personal responsibility and equal treatment; and are actively engaged in the process of giving away our personal freedom in order to enhance the size and scope of the government. People's political affiliations are PART of the problem.

"Unfortunately, in the past, we have been a reactionary country, resulting in political shifts back and forth from left to right without a lot of forward progress. After attaining power, both sides act in ways that are less than honorable, but they justify their actions by citing similar transgressions performed by the other side".

I would like an example, in the last 50 years, of Republicans sticking it to Democrats once they regained power. I believe quite the opposite of the stated theory. I suspect the primary reason Democrats are being so fearless in their attacks is because they have learned that there will not be reprisals from establishment Republicans.

This whole article reads like someone is trying really hard to appear "non-biased" and "independent" when in the immortal words of Ice-T/Body Count "Sh*t ain't like that". We need to learn that Democrats are playing hard ball. Establishment republicans are playing whiffle ball when they can be bothered to even take the field.

We must realize that our countrymen are not our enemies

I must disagree with this. We must, if we are to survive as a nation, recognize that there are indeed, domestic enemies to our Constitution. They abide in all walks of life and are nefarious as well as tanacious. Ignorance of their existance is de facto acceptance.

Well, I like Dr. Carson and there’s a lot to admire about the man. However, I cannot agree with his assessment here. We are in a war for out very survival and we need real men of character that are “wise as serpents and innocent as doves”. Oh, were it true, that we were a nation like in the days of our Founders. Scriptural truths informed their ideas and opinions and that is why they appear as such giants among the political pigmies we have to suffer with today. Unless and until there is a sea change of heart and soul among a large number of our nation’s citizens - moving them in a moral (read Christian) direction, we have no hope - not little - none! We can only expect more of the same and a faster slide into the abyss of socialistic utopianism. I can’t believe so many Americans are so deceived and/or so stupid - voting for their own destruction. It is a black day in America indeed.
