Rand Paul blames America- Partly To Blame For Pearl Harbor, World War II
The Right Scoop ^ | 2012 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 03/31/2014 11:04:32 AM PDT by gwgn02

At the Washington Post, Jennifer Rubin this weekend highlighted a video of Rand Paul speaking in 2012 about sanctions on Iran. In it, Paul disparages the notion of use of force, and for some reason claims the United States was partly to blame for World War II!

“There are times when sanctions have made it worse. I mean, there are times .. leading up to World War II we cut off trade with Japan. That probably caused Japan to react angrily. We also had a blockade on Germany after World War I, which may have encouraged them … some of their anger.”

Rubin spoke with David David Adesnik of the American Enterprise Institute about Paul’s remarks:

After viewing the video, he tells Right Turn, “Blaming the U.S. for Pearl Harbor is a long-standing isolationist habit that reflects tremendous historical illiteracy. Sen. Paul is very poorly informed if he thinks U.S. sanctions ‘probably caused Japan to react angrily.’” He explains, “The U.S. cut off oil supplies to Japan in August 1941, long after Japan had launched its atrocity-laden war against China in 1937. The evidence is conclusive that Japan was determined to dominate all of East Asia. Believing that the U.S. would not stand by passively if it overran Thailand, Singapore, Malaya and the East Indies, Japan launched its surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.”

In some ways he is right for the wrong or shall I say WONG reasons.

There is a lot of good evidence that the US (FDR Administration) put trade sanctions on Japan in order to HELP the Communists in Mainland China...

Does living in Washington DC cause cognitive degradation or something?
CDC should look into this.
It's getting close to 100% affected already.
Of course it could run in the family this time.
The Pauls have always been like loose cannons on the deck.

Rand Paul always talks like this. He goes against the best Tea Party candidates whenever he feel like it.

How can anyone ever be surprised by anything he says?

The response to Rand Paul hides one major issue. The reason the Japanese planned on attacking Southeast Asia was to get at the Dutch oil fields in Indonesia to replace the oil they were no longer receiving from the US. FDR embargo and the ultimatum which came with it threatened to halt Japan’s war effort in China. Some say FDRs ultimatum was analogous to the Austria-Hungary’s ultimatum to Serbia: to stay a sovereign nation the only response was war.

This scam post was already posted here a few hours ago, in the video he explains why he voted for the sanctions against Iran.

Reminds me of that scam post here with the title claiming that the McDonalds shut down because of striking workers. Many fell for that too.

FDR that great commie bast**d that he was, knew what he was doing when he blocked the Japanese oil and other supplies.

not that FDR shouldn’t have, but FDR was more concerned about getting us into WW 2 to help his Soviet Buddies than to help England.

I still believe that FDR knew about Pearl Harbor in advance and let our service men die for political expediency.

Yes Rand Paul is correct....I am not sure he is correct for the right reasons, though.
I could deal with an isolationist president who kept up our military might as a deterrent...

Rand you’re done. Apparently you wouldn’t recognize the “Asian Co-prosperity Sphere” if it bit you.

Sorry, but this is idiotic analysis.

Japan and Germany did not attack the Allies because of the Allies' trade policies.

They attacked because they saw the chance to seize land and assets, and they used trade policies or anything else as an excuse to justify their actions.

Rand Paul apparently knows nothing about history or the realities of human nature.

As a result he blindly and unthinkingly swallows the propaganda of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany.

Childish.
