Journalism No Longer the Worst Job In America—Barely
Accuracy in Academia ^ | April 17, 2014 | Don Irvine

Journalism, which was ranked as the worst job in America last year, inched up a notch to finish at number 199, just ahead of lumberjack on CareerCast’s latest list of the top 200 best and worst jobs in the U.S. for 2014. By “worst jobs,” they are referring to employment opportunities.

This is a reversal of last year when lumberjack came in at 199, after finishing at number 200 in 2012.

Neither job has a very bright future, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimating that logging positions will drop by 9% by 2022, and reporters by 13%.

Logging has been hit by flagging demand for products, along with the switch to mechanization for many tasks that lumberjacks used to do, while the newspaper industry has been suffering from declining employment since the 2008 recession, as advertising revenue plunged and consumers dropped newspapers in favor of digital news reporting.

Photojournalists (186) and broadcasters (196) fared marginally better, but they all fell below such luxurious jobs as dishwasher (124), sewage plant operator (141) and meter reader (183).

The top job in the U.S. was mathematician, with tenured professors—who collect good salaries and are almost impossible to fire—finishing second.

Sharyl Attkisson no doubt thinks she would have gotten more respect as a sewage plant operator.

Seems to me if you are a duplicitous conniving backstabbing malcontent who doesn’t really want to work or break a sweat, Journalism is the sinecure.

Where else could someone like Stephen Glass at New Republic, or Jayson Blair at the NYT create stories out of thin air for years and not get caught?

Where else could one sit on their ass most of the day save to check the Reuters or AP feed in the early morning and create their rote pablum lies for the rest of the day?

Where else could one create a pack of lies and source it with that catchall phrase “some say, or polls say?”

lumberjack is a doomed profession. The logging companies now have the massive machines that strip all the branches off trees while they are still standing then chop down massive trees while holding on to it then grab them before they even fall and rotate and put them on the truck.

This ‘journalist’ for example, doesn’t know the difference between a job and job opportunities.

One is the actual work, the other is the number of job openings.

Being King of the World would seem to be the absolute worst ‘job’ in his article because there are no open positions at all.

Stupid journalists are a dime a dozen though. (Yes, I know what a non-sequitor that statement it- but I bet he doesn’t)

Journalism?

Collect Democrat press releases, add your byline, send them to the printing plant.

What’s so tough about that?

Well, many journalists do dress in women’s clothing and hang around in bars.

I have come to believe that journalism attracts some the most ignorant and uneducated people.
