Skip to comments.New Syrian-Iranian chlorine bombs make mockery of US-Russian chemical accord and UN monitors

The household cleaning agent chlorine, in heavy concentration is purchased by Iran and and fitted with detonators, to provide President Bashar Assad with a vehicle for cheating on his undertaking to surrender Syrias chemical arsenal under the year-old US-Russian chemical disarmament accord. And Assad is indeed getting away with using chlorine bombs, with crippling effect, especially on children, every few days.
On April 7, Israel Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon offered chapter and verse to prove that the Syrian army had perpetrated a chemical attack on civilians in he town of Harasta on March 27, causing scores of serious injuries and lasting damage to children. Yet although Assad continues to fight civilians with chemical weapons up to the present, neither the Obama administration, nor the Russian Kremlin or the United Nations find his actions reprehensible enough to warrant rebuke or even concern.
On April 11, Syrian planes dropped the new weapon, made of Chinese-manufactured chlorine gas canisters rigged with explosive detonators, on Kafr Zita near Hama. Since then, British and French intelligence sources have reported at least four such attacks against the northern towns of Idlib and Homs and the Harasta and Jobar districts outside Damascus.
Assad is dropping these gas bombs at the rate of one every three days.
Our sources report that Tehran has so far ordered 10,000 canisters. They are delivered by Iranian military transports to Damascus military airfield, where Iranian technicians repackage the chlorine in containers suitable for dropping by aircraft. They are rigged with detonators for explosions to release the chlorine gas on targets. The use of chlorine as a weapon of war was banned by the 1925 Chemical Weapons Convention, which was promulgated after its use in World War I by the Germany army to gas hundreds of thousands of allied troops at Ypres. Assads grotesque use of a household cleaning agent to poison Syrian civilians, while earning UN commendation for putatively eliminating his chemical arsenal, sends four hard messages for Israel:
The allies in WWI used plenty of poison gas...
Clorox + Ammonia = Free Chlorine gas.............................cheap and effective....................
This is 2014, not 1914, right?
I would advocate for use of MOAB (Massive Ordinace Air Burst), a fuel air explosive with a blast effect of tactical muclear weapons in Damascus to remove the Baath dictatorship.
Next, I would use the same weapon in Gaza and Lebanon.
Then, in Pyongyang.
We have the military capability to obliterate nations and cultures that threaten ours. Why have we been taxed and spent into oblivion to develop these weapons?
Jimmy Carter nixed the neutron bomb, or so we have been told. I really do not know. But the neutron bomb was a beautiful thing. You could annihilate cities and leave the infrastructure largely intact.
The Israelis, I have read—unsubstantiated—developed the neutron bomb.
Perhaps, quite soon, we will find whether the Israelis have the weapon.
It does fit descriptions in scripture of how people will be consumed, while standing on their feet.
Would that not be something? I always say God is not mocked. I always look at Israel as God has described Israel—the apple of his eye.
For two generations the whole world has stumbled on Jerusalem, a cup of trembling.
God will not be mocked. He will do all His pleasure.
If you are a FR muslim, lurker or contributor, the Bible is a good thing to look into. All the nations, all of them, without exception, in all of scripture, that God will destroy are muslim. Period.
“If you like your Armageddon, you can keep your Armegeddon”.
That was an attempt at humor. People will mock and laugh all the way to the bitter end. Then they will curse their Creator.
I fear the living Lord God, our Creator, His living Son, and His Holy Spirit.
Demons know God and rightly tremble at His Name.
Boy, am I ever going to get flamed.
Actually the article says:
“The use of chlorine as a weapon of war was banned by the 1925 Chemical Weapons Convention, which was promulgated after its use in World War I by the Germany army to gas hundreds of thousands of allied troops at Ypres.”
But if you somehow want to blame our side for the horrors Assad is doing, be my guest.
Well at least it will clean their white shirts.
Netanyahu is paying close attention to this.
Zero’s Syrian red line meant nothing. Clock is running out on Iran’s nuclear bomb program very soon.
The world supplies of poison gas and similar agents would surprise even the most knowledgeable among you. Why they have not been used extensively is only because everyone has them and retaliation is too punishing. Some are subtle while others are outrageous. It is entirely possible to take down an entire city the size of New York with a small supply of chemicals. enough to make everyone sick to the point of incapacitation or death. By comparison, Nukes are benign.
2banana was not blaming our side, merely pointing out historical facts. The original statement in the article makes it seem as if Germany suddenly engaged in a one time attack that was so awful that the world recoiled and banned the use of poison gases. That is not the case. Both sides used poison gases in large quantities during the war.
"Current US FAE munitions include:
BLU-73 FAE I
BLU-95 500-lb (FAE-II)
BLU-96 2,000-lb (FAE-II)
CBU-55 FAE I
CBU-72 FAE I"
And how many chemical weapons do you think the US has today?
Thanks. Debka ping.
“Boy, am I ever going to get flamed.”
Well, you probably should be. You don’t appear to understand the military and I think the Good Lord can handle HIS own affairs.
March 11, 1982 to July 6 2006. Retired from the Navy, intelligence officer, later DIA, retired intelligence officer, Afghanistan, in country 2003-2011.
I think I may have a smattering of military knowledge.
I think you may have mistaken me for an ignoramus like you. Perhaps you should avoid mirrors.
I sit corrected. You are right. I am old and sometimes the synapses fire off target.
Then you should know better than to wish genocide on billions while thinking GOD would somehow approve.
War is war and genocide is something entirely different, and if you read what God says in his own scripture, yes billions will die, and at His hand, however the numbers involved in the aforementioned suggested targets I proferred would be far less than God’s intended judgment. Perhaps a few millions at most vice billions.
And, since if the tables were turned vis a vis what the muslims would do to the west if they could (near total extermination with forced conversion, rape and plunder for all surviving non-muslims, I think my suggested policy for war is much more humane that what is in store—not from me or you, but from God is his own words throughout both the Old and New Testament.
Arguably, other than imposing your restrictions on what you think God should do, you should remember that He is God and He does not need you to advise on or give your approval what He has promised to do.
I suspect you spend little time studying the texts but a great deal more time arrogating to yourself positions you believe morally superior to the Living God.
Earth is about 7 billion people, God will see to the death of 5/6 of them. And, in the Great Flood, well, all but eight were killed out of about 1.2 Billion then living at the time of Noah.
Or, if the information above that is given in scripture are “just so” tales that are mostly unreliable myths, fables, just silly primitive creation accounts that almost every culture has penned their own versions of and as such, all are unreliable for any but simple reading, or faculty lounge comparative literature discussions, there really is no argument needed is there?

Doesn't take much to make a mockery of American foreign policy in the middle east.
