A Salt Lake City police officer has been placed on leave after refusing an assignment to work at a gay pride parade.
The officer was among about 30 officers assigned to provide traffic control and security for the annual Utah Pride Parade on Sunday in Salt Lake City, said department spokeswoman Lara Jones.
"We don't tolerate bias and bigotry in the department, and assignments are assignments ... To allow personal opinion to enter into whether an officer will take a post is not something that can be tolerated in a police department," Jones told KSL.
She declined comment on the officer's reason for refusing the assignment.

An assignment is an assignment. When cops can decide who to protect and where they want to serve, then why have them anymore?
It’s a special event, not normal duty and they should have some choice.
Is the police chief a lesbian? Probably. Even if not, she’s PC correct, and I believe she is intentionally picking out cops whom she knows are either religious Christian and/or anti gay marriage, and makes sure they are one of the ones she chooses for gay pride parades, knowing those person(s) will refuse and then she can get rid of or demote them, or hope they quit. I feel it in my bones that this is the new tactic.

The article doesn’t say that it was an off-duty or overtime type of assignment. It sounds like it was just a regular duty day for the 30 officers assigned.

This occurred in Utah, a largely Mormon state. So, we have queers prancing and flouncing in a “Pervert’s Parade” in teh same city where the Mormon central Temple is located.
Perhaps it is time for them to go full ‘Mountin’ Meadows on the prancers & flouncers - release their inner Mormon, so to speak.
But, they have decided to “Love the sinner but not the sin.” An interesting concept, that.

I agree an assignment is an assignment BUT would you have a Black Cop provide security for a KKK meeting if he didn’t want to ‘protect’ them?
If he didn’t want to be the ‘Special Detail’ at a BYU Football game would you force him to do it or find someone that wanted to go to the FB game?

Pride rallies don’t just draw on the local talent. They are “vacation destinations” for homo-activists.
It’s a vacation/sex party. And there IS a lot of public sex in the washrooms at these events. Just as the bar staff who work the corridor in Houston (one of the largest such parades).
It IS about getting out there in public and creating a scene.
PRIDE is one of the 7 deadly sins.
This is not an “inclusive” event, it is “exclusive” of the heteronormative world. Any other sex deviant freak is under the umbrella.
