Todd Akin returns to national stage

Two years after the Missouri Republican’s comments on rape, pregnancy and abortion doomed his campaign and fueled a “war on women” message that carried Democrats to victory in the Senate, one of the few regrets he mentions in a new book is the decision to air a campaign ad apologizing for his remarks.

“By asking the public at large for forgiveness,” Akin writes, “I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said.”

“He’s just fooling himself..”

Yeah, I don’t think he can get himself appointed dog catcher, let alone anything higher now. Anyone who could get Claire McCaskill elected again is not redeemable.

Seeing how the article is by two libs from Politico, and the nature of the slams on this thread, and noting the posters making the fun slams of Akin, the conclusion is clear:

Akin must be a true conservative and he has been and is still being marginalized by the press and GOP operatives for their own reasons.

It’s a good thing politicians cannot sue FR bloggers for slander.

Or he really is an idiot and the conservatives around here are correct in their opinions of him.

Here is about the only post I made on him, now I can see why Governor Palin opposed him and later asked him to drop out.

I don’t know anything about Akin, and a 12 year, good voting record sounds great, but I did catch most of his interview on the Hannity show, and he gave me the willies.

I’m ready for a good conservative underdog fight, but Akin seemed creepy that day, fixated on winning the next office, self absorbed, vain, and rigid, egoistical in a quiet, mock Christian way, is he always like that?

“The man blew a slam dunk victory against one of the weakest candidates in history!! All because he doesn’t even understand basic biology!!

AND because he has some very “off center” religious ideas.

Sorry but when Sarah Palin and Allen west are telling you to quit and McCaskill is telling you to stay in, you have lost any conservative credibility

Akins says he is “sorry about the misunderstandings surrounding my comments on sex, rape and pregnancy”, adding that “I not really interested in those topics these days...but I've been doing a lot of reading lately on the subject of race and intelligence. Fascinating stuff. Did you know that...”

I would be willing to be that preg from a violent rape wouldnt ALMOST always result in preg IF the conditions were right of course.. to think that a woman can “shut that whole thing down” are just silly. Can it cause her to lose a baby of course.. happens to perfectly happy women all the time... but i would be MORE than 60% of time it did not in cases of rape...

Timid Republicans always seem to be apologizing for things they did not do wrong, so his observation about the apology validating the attack is a good one. If he has truly learned from his mistake, he might still make a good candidate.

I don’t know the percentage but it does happen and the woman has no control over it.

I wish the fools that attack honest men like Aiken would just evaporate.

Nothing Aiken said was false or misleading, just not acceptable fare for power politics in this twisted country.

Attacking Aiken left the GOPe with justice for their evil deeds; too bad that the rest of us have to suffer with them, but entirely too many of “us” are just as evil as they are.

And of course that's someone else's fault too.

Todd was McCackle’s choice. That should have tipped him off.

Sorry, but he stayed in and handed that seat to McCaskill. And his crazy wife went out and said that the GOP was raping them. When you mess up like he did you don’t double down on it.

No, he didn’t hand the seat to McCaskill, the GOPe did that by not standing up for him and supporting him. He was the only qualified candidate there was in the race.

You’re doubling down on GOPe stupidity.
