David Gregory’s flight to nowhere
Politico ^ | 8/17/14 | DYLAN BYERS

David Gregory wasn’t supposed to host “Meet the Press” on Sunday. He was on a planned vacation in Nantucket, where, the night before, he had hosted a special presentation of the Boston Pops, sponsored by Coastal Living and Real Simple.

Midway through the week, however, Gregory changed his mind. His fate at “Meet the Press” had been the subject of numerous press reports. Page Six and others had declared him dead in the water come November. Several NBC personalities were already vying to replace him. Gregory was chartered back to Washington for Sunday’s program, having concluded, one NBC source said, that being off was “a dumb move” — that would have only further fueled speculation that the host was on his way out.

For well over a year now, NBC News executives have been trying to come up with a solution to what sources there referred to as “the David Gregory problem.” The host had driven NBC’s once-dominant Sunday show to the bottom of the ratings race. He was widely disliked within the organization and his ambition and vanity rubbed important colleagues at NBC the wrong way.

So now "What The Chuck" Todd is going to redeem this show and the entire genre with improved ratings and ad revenue, or is this just NBC refusing to get out of the Sunday morning chitchat show?

If they wanted real discussion, NBC could have brought in the group from "The Independents". Or one of the clown shows from its farm system, MSNBC.

I’m wondering what the REAL story is behind David Gregory’s termination. I find it hard to believe that a cable network with Al Sharpton on the payroll has any standards at all.

Gee, makes you wonder (1)how he won the job in the first place and (2)how he lasted so long. And now they have to pay him $4M to leave quietly.

Sharpton is at NBC because it was a condition set down by the Justice Dept to allow the sale of NBC from GE to Comcast. Gregory didn’t have any special protections.

All the Sunday shows have seen their influence wane in recent years...

David Gregory, Bob Schieffer, George Stephenapoulos.... Why is viewership declining?.

The first couple of sentences made me dare to daydream for just a moment that I’d see the phrases “barricaded himself” and “extensive arsenal” a few paragraphs in.

He was widely disliked within the organization and ...

The frizzy-headed, insufferable little body part is "widely disliked" outside the organization, also.

Oh the drama...the intrigue...all over this nasty slanted biased liberal David Gregory. Tim Russert was closer to the middle so got the much higher ratings. What else is there to know?

Replace an obnoxious communist host with a less obnoxious communist host presenting the democrat’s talking points as undisputed facts and rhinos agreeing, yes conservative ideals are dangerous and beyond the pale so we must walk over to accept 90% of the position of our good friends the democrats. It’s a sure fire ratings hit!
I personally think they missed the mark! I think it’s time for a bold move by selecting a woman of color- Meet the Press with your host Melissa Harris Perry!

He should be in jail for possession of a magazine. In my mind he will always be a felon.
