Sounds about right to me... "...Mayor Richard J. Daley later told reporters that he had ordered police "to shoot to kill any arsonist or anyone with a Molotov cocktail in his hand . . . and . . . to shoot to maim or cripple anyone looting any stores in our city."

Golly gee, a Democrat Mayor ordered that. No wonder there is so much killing in Chicago.
Can you imagine any mayor (D or R) saying anything close to that nowadays? Heck, today’s mayors are usually out there alongside the looters throwing rocks at the cops.
Can't say that Daley is on my list of historical heroes, but he was spot on with this order!
Why would any leader NOT act similarly, boggles my mind.
Playing nice with ignorant irrational lethal criminals ALWAYS enables and re-energizes them.
Why should those common sense orders ever be relaxed?
I find this surprising.

Violent criminals wielding a very lethal weapon must be stopped whatever it takes.
I have no patience and no sympathy for violent thugs.
When local government refuses to protect the lives or property of the lawful from the lawless, I shudder to think of the long term effects on our crumbling society.
Those burned out property owners will not be made whole, for insurance does not cover damage from civil disturbances. Many have mortgages whose service depended on their business. They have been screwed in the name of social justice and may never recover.
The only quarrel that I have with Daley’s order was to shoot to maim or cripple. All shots should be to kill. It is dangerous to try and shoot only to wound and really difficult, as well. When lethal force is employed, it should be used for maximum effect.
For us “older” folks, Those Were The Days!
There isn’t a mayor or politician alive today that would even consider giving such an order as “Shoot To Kill”. If there were, you would see a DRAMATIC reduction in what is going on in Ferguson. MO. Get a few of the looters, stealers and such lying face down in the streets and the crap will stop. Well past time to “Get Er Done!!!!
