I had one teacher who was so out there you got a choice between the paddle (which was something the woodshop teacher made up, guy had issues), or you could hold on to the wires of an old telephone magneto which she would crank briefly. Torqemada had nothing on her. However, it must be said that her classes were very well behaved!

Agree. No four year old should be switched multiple times until he bleeds. Nobody should be subjected to that.
A firm swat to the butt, open handed, one time worked for me.
An adult who loves their child would not beat them that many times to the point of bleeding. I don’t care how old the kid is - that’s not right.
The black community by far uses the most corporal punishment—and they raise kids who do far more crime. I don’t think that association backs your argument.
We used to have the drama of going to the front yard and cut our own switch from the smoke tree.
Mom usually chickened out by then, but the switch was right there on the table for when Dad got home.
Actual whippin’s were rare and nothing more than a bruise or slight welt, but I still remember why I got a couple of them now 50+ years later.
Spare the rod, spoil the child.
Have you seen the pictures of what he did to his four-year-old son?
I remember seeing a black neighbor (a woman) who had an electric cord to whip her kids with. My dad had a belt, and after making my mom cry, I got whipped 17 times.
I never forgot it.
lol - yup.
Spare the rod, switch, whatever, spoil the child.
Black parents, including parents who aren’t very good by many standards, do try to discipline their children, and they do tend to be extremely harsh. They’re almost always looking at a particular behavior that is annoying to them, however, and not the big picture of how the child interacts with other people, including them; and this is not true only of blacks, but of lower income whites in the South (where I live).
I hear truly nasty abusive stuff coming out of both black and white mouths when I go to WalMart, and while I think the parents may mean well, I’m not surprised that the kids don’t turn out well. In any case, it’s usually a worn out “single mother,” sometimes with a thuggish boyfriend who doesn’t give a darn, so I wouldn’t say there’s any serious parenting going on there.
Both blacks and whites need more moral instruction and more ideas about how to love their children and each other. The churches have totally failed the poor on this.
There’s a difference between spanking and whipping to the point of bloodshed.
People, including a bunch of Freepers, can emote all they want, but there are a couple of irrefutable facts:
This type of discipline was far more common 50 years ago than it is today.
There were far more civilized children growing up 50 years ago.
Today the term feral human is understood by most, because we have so many.
I have.
It would help to have the pictures posted.
The pictures give lie to those who claim this was some out of control rage.
It would have helped even more had they been posted further up thread.
I grew up in 1970s
My mom was one that spank my brother and I

My arms and legs look worse than those pics after a good day in the woods or fields hunting pheasants or grouse. I’ve seen the pics, those are scratches, not serious wounds. This is much ado about nothing. They will heal in a day or two.
Ha Ha....that’s great!
ooooooooooooooo doggie, we in America have gotten a bellyful of cultural behavior from looting in Ferguson, knocking out your baby mama and injuring your own flesh and blood in the last few weeks. Been a real eye opener. Cultural, eh? bee ess. Bad behavior. Period. End of discussion.
It does?
What type of brutish and idiotic father inflicts all of those bleeding cuts and bruises on a four-year-old in anything other than out of control rage?
