Chinese government operatives reportedly are suspected of hacking the U.S. Postal Service, in a security breach that may have compromised personal information for more than 800,000 workers.

The breach was announced Monday, as President Obama arrived in Beijing.

The Postal Service confirmed the incident in a written statement, saying personal information that may have been obtained in the attack includes employees' names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, emergency contacts and other information.

The agency said customers at local post offices or those using its website, usps.com, were not affected. However, people who used its call center may have had telephone numbers, email addresses and other information compromised.

I don’t understand how this sort of thing isn’t considered an act of war.

Yeah, don’t they get it. The U.S. government is allowed to spy on everything and everybody and it is a one-way street. Shame on those Chinese.

One more time...

There is a "college" located 10 miles outside Beijing run by the Chicoms. The students do not graduate until they hack into a U.S. government computer.

About 500k at the moment but the list probably included old employees too.

It’s not just spying. The Chinese government is sponsoring activities that are causing damage to corporations and individuals.

Nothing to worry about.

NSA/FBI/HLS and other 3 letter agencies have us covered and protected again.

wouldn't be hard to hack into the post office....I moved in August, sent out my change of address, like I'm suppose to. The other day my daughter brings me mailed delivered to her address instead of my new address with my NEW address on it.

I have to wonder what qualifications you need to be a postal worker, reading, apparently is not one of them

The only surprise here is that the Postal Service has not been hacked prior to this.

Have them delete the pensions while they’re in there.

Maybe our post office can afford to have full hours again.

It seems rather low in terms of importance to a foreign power. Maybe this was a practice target for some high-school Chinese kids.

“The USPS has 800,000 workers???”

They did ten years ago. Now it’s less than half that figure ( and S/B half of that based on need) but the retirees keep the number up. The USPS is where low-level military retirees go to earn a second retirement. Twenty and out, and another twenty and out and pretty soon you’re talking real retirement money. It’s the same for the cops and the FFs.

Maybe we’ll see some Chinese replacements as postal employees soon.

;-)
