The 60’s hippies ? You are talking about a group of people who thought Marx wanted to do away with the state. When in reality, Marx was nothing but a tool for the state.
Don’t get me started on THAT topic... I’m a Heinlein fan and have been disappointed by the straw they’ve spun from his gold.
“But he was also a monarchist. Thats something that makes him challenging, I think, to modern Americans.”
Do American Christians have issues with the King of Kings? I don’t. Can’t wait till the return of the King.
We are Americans, we are anti-Monarchists, not anti-Jesus.
I think you are confusing hippies with political activists, I don’t recall real hippies talking about Marx or much politics at all, that was the conversation of the college kids and the political kids, the people interested in voting and politics and power, in getting degrees and being a part of the system, not the drop outs who wanted to get a shot gun and a pick up, and get back to the land, raise vegetables and rabbits, and be left alone.
I do realize that, I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area during that time period and was somewhat caught up in the movement. I was never interested in politics until I saw what a disaster Carter was and how great Reagan was. First time I voted was for Reagan second term and I’ve been a conservative ever since. Some of my friends that are still old hippies ask me why I am so “right wing” and I explain to them what you just wrote. I tell them that I believe in individual liberty and freedom from oppression from big gov’t.
I know how you feel, I have the same problem with those mind numbing Star War movies, enough already, one was enough, and it wasn’t that great.
You are confusing hippies with libertarians or libertines. Hippies are drugged out dupes easily played by the man, while thinking that they are actually duping the man.
I’m not confusing them at all, they were a short lived phenomena of only a few years.
Thanks GOPJ.
My dad was a hippy for a couple of years. Showed up with long hair and beads one year. Was living on a commune. He left rather quick cause he figured out he was just working for the commune leaders. He had only changed the man for another man. The current occupiers and racist street thugs may never figure that out. They are too drugged and brainwashed.
Well, there were people like you dad during that era as well, not many but there will always be sheep, even today.
Actually it was a woman that dragged into the commune. She must have been rather talented.
No, it was your dad who was the sheep.
Yup!
It’s the Hippies that were toke’n.
.
Joy to the World!
They liked tokin' better.
Also anti-miscegenation. The elf/human and Numenorean/commoner marriages didn't work out too well.
Bump for later.
