U.S. Congresswoman’s Husband Killed by Obamacare Incentives
Political Outcast ^ | 12/10/2014 | Mark Home

Back in October, I posted about the story that people were avoiding needed medical care because the Obamacare plans involved high deductibles or co-pays. Under Obamacare as it exists now, Americans are basically paying insurance premiums and not getting anything in return. If they avoid the doctor to avoid paying their deductible then they will probably never reach the point that the insurance company has to start helping them with expenses.

All by design friend...all intentional and calculated by by government paid actuaries who know exactly ow to squeeze the most out of you without paying anything or at least far less in than they pay out. It’s one of the best cons ever perpetrated on America brought on by one SC Justice Roberts, soon to be listed as one of the most hated men in America because he allowed himself to be blackmailed by a socialist thug wrought on destroying an entire nation for a Satanic madman’s NWO fantasy...

The only upside to this story is that it happened to a member of congress and she now gets to experience what millions of Americans are experiencing.

What am I missing here? The guy’s wife makes over $170K a year and he can’t afford to see a doctor? BS.

Insurance is supposed to help with the big expenses, not the small. Otherwise you're not talking about an insurance plan but a health care plan, two different things. A great many people who don't want to pay for exams because they're under the deductible could actually afford to but choose not to.

People paying out of pocket and being price-conscious is one of the things necessary to control the cost of health care. Unfortunately without price transparency and with preferential pricing that is very difficult to do.

I will add that having insurance cover ordinary doctor’s visits is one of the things that makes going to the doctor so expensive, as the doctor has to hire extra staff and occasionally do battle with the insurance companies himself. It’s also one of the things that really limits the time doctors spend with patients.

Every now and then I read about primary care doctors who decides not to deal with insurance companies and runs a practice on a cash basis, charging around $40 a visit and makes a better living than before, with far less stress. These are doctors who treat the ordinary people and not those who can afford the $2000 or so upfront for concierge care.

sounds somewhat plausible, however, i wonder how this contrasts with co-pay visits.

“What am I missing here?”

Not enough info to answer the question, but here’s a guess:

If you made that much would you choose to live in a trailer, or would you perhaps live in an area the fit your income? I think most fit their income. This would include cars and other personal property as well as kids, etc.. I don’t know if their kids are in college (or even if they have any) but that’s not an expense to ignore.

So your living your life to the tune of your expenses and along comes commie-care. Previously, let’s say your insurance is 1000 a month and $300 dollar deductible, for you, your wife, and two kids.

Now, your premium is 3000 a month and the deductible is 5000. If your income doesn’t match that increase, which is effectively like purchasing 4 cars, you might be a bit hesitant to shell out a grand for a barrage of cardiac tests.

My doc is like that. $45 per visit and he takes no insurance although you can submit the expenses yourself to insurance. When I see him I get at least an hour with him. It’s a great deal.

If its that bad, then Obamacare should be reversed 100 percent reversed, but oops, the Republicans aren’t doing that.

The GOPe gives us this tragic emotional story while they pass a budget to budget to continue funding Obamacare, Amnesty and pay for all kinds of pork everywhere.

P.T. Barnum spoke of a “sucker being born every minute”.

I’m not a “sucker” anymore for the political show.....

I watched Bill O’Reilly last night and he did a segment on OCare where he stated that deductibles were going up 312% on average. That makes OCare 100% unusable.

You’re being generous to the Congresswoman, and that’s laudable. I understand your points, as my youngest son will be a senior in HS when I turn 65.

Welcome to the horrors of socialism. This is how the middle class is wiped out under these schemes.

What the congresswoman’s husband experienced is pretty much what poor folks experience. They hold off on care and assume the risk. The commies use this as marketing to implement gov’t controlled schemes.

In a free society, the fact that better income gets you a better life serves as the primary motivator for people to succeed, with the hazards of the poor being a “life lesson” for all to see.

But as you can see here, what happens under socialism is that middle class folks can’t improve their lives because their money is taken away from them to fund the poor, so it doesn’t matter what you do, unless you happen to be someone like Bill Gates.

Socialism imposes an artificial glass ceiling on upward mobility. The more socialism we have the worse it gets.

It’s worse than that. The Lummis’ are worth millions.
Google her for more info.
The mister, Alvin Wiederspahn, was a banking exec.
Sheer stupidity to have her say anything.

“In 2007-2008, Rep. Lummis’ financial disclosure forms reported a net worth between $20 million and $75 million, landing her spot No. 15 on RollCall.com’s list of the 50 wealthiest members in both houses of Congress”.

Why do you think so many former script drugs have suddenly gone OTC at the lowest dose. People who cannot afford a doctor or O’care with self medicate. We have been doing it for centuries.

Problem is if there is a underlying health issue. Or people not KNOWING the side effects of the OTC drugs they take. To much Advil or Aleve will lead to GERD. Then you will need Nexium or other GERD meds, which leads to Bone Density issues called Osteoporosis. And every one of the OP drugs have a high FDA warning on them. Reclast and Boniva are the worst, with Foreto being Black Box labelled.

WARNINGS OP DRUGS Kidney failure deaths, A Fib, Jaw Degeneration and A Typical Femur Fractures

Reclast has the highest warning.

Reclast UPS kidney failure, A FIB risk. Not to be given to Asthma patients.

Like most useful medications, Forteo may have its possible downside. In animals, it promotes the development of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. In humans, osteosarcoma has not been reported but it remains a concern with Forteo. (The daily injections are also a downside.)

Vicious circle.

Insurance is supposed to help with unavoidable and unforeseen expenses. It MAY BE in the interest of the INSURANCE COMPANY to cover preventive care to avoid larger expense to cover major illness.

I have a part time occupation which involves having conversations with people about medical care as well as other topics. Some of them report having to meet deductibles that are simply astounding to me. If I were talking to very wealthy people it would be different but very few are anything approaching wealthy. I have spoken with quite a few who say that even though they are supposedly covered under health insurance they are really what I would choose to call “INOS” or insured in name only. They have such high deductibles to meet that they run out of year before they run out of deductibles. Some say that they would be better off to have no insurance because they could have the monthly premium to spend on healthcare. I have heard from some that their only benefit from insurance is that the insurance company negotiates lower charges from providers but they still end up paying the entire charge out of pocket. Some say that they don’t go to the doctor except as a last resort because after paying premiums they simply don’t have the income.

I am old enough to recall when I could walk into a doctor’s office and be seen without an appointment and pay a total charge of five dollars or less for the doctor’s services without the need to file insurance. The current situation is the outgrowth of government programs piled on top of government programs. We would all be far better off if government had stayed completely out of medical care. Part of this revolting situation that has developed is the abominable practice of advertising prescription medicines, many of which are counterproductive to health, the goal seems to be to have every American from cradle to grave taking chronic medications for multiple conditions, most of them imaginary.

Modern medical practice is amazingly effective for trauma care. In treating chronic conditions it is often useless and even counterproductive. In many cases the greatest favor to be done to someone with chronic problems is to convince them to throw away their pills. I suffered for many years with recurring sinus infections causing untold misery and pain and the doctors I saw never offered anything except antibiotics and other pills. I finally bought a book and learned how to eliminate my sinus problems with readily available over the counter PREVENTIVE measures not involving any kind of pill or any other kind of medicine to be swallowed and have not needed to see a doctor or take antibiotics for sinus trouble in years. Why didn’t a doctor tell me how to stop the problem?
