Governor Pat Quinn announced Saturday his plans for $26 million in investments for 75 park projects across Illinois.

The investments aim to help communities acquire land for parks and “recreational opportunities.”

According to a statement released Saturday, a program called Open Space Land Acquisition and Development will provide $24 million to support 75 projects in 28 counties throughout Illinois, while an additional $2 million will come from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

“These programs help protect critical open space in Illinois, especially in areas of the state where development is occurring at a fast pace,” Illinois Department of Natural Resources director Marc Miller said in a statement Saturday.

Governor Quinn said, “By investing in our parks and providing communities with more opportunities for recreation, we can improve the quality of life for families while creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.”

Calling government spending of tax-dollars “investments” should get politicians laughed at, at least

Maybe midnight basketball will return to Chicago’s south and west sides.
Players may want to borrow a cup of bullets from a neighbor before they go.

That’s exactly how it works in Illinois and everyone knows it. The MSM never reports it. Go figure!

Are you kidding, the MSM reports this BS with giddy tittering as if the money materialized out of thin air.

Hey maybe it actually did.

Right ... calling the theft of tax dollars to fund anything an investment is just plain thievery

Finally, an Illinois Governor does not wind up in prison immediately.

Election to the office for many of his predecessors has meant a ticket straight to the big house.

“These programs help protect critical open space in Illinois, especially in areas of the state where development is occurring at a fast pace,”

the way people are fleeing Illinois, the whole place will be open space before too long.

I’m not sure I think there is still time before his official term is up and it’s the usual IL method for keeping governors from getting brave and running their mouths.

Now, don’t get me wrong — my family greatly enjoys the many recreational opportunities in IL parks (etc.) And, some are overcrowded in peak times. But, IL also has large parks near urban areas that go nearly deserted at the same times: Few people even know they exist. Yet in the same areas even more facilities are added and areas opened — all at a time when IL is broke.

If incoming Gov. Rauner has any sense at all, he’ll can this 26 million expenditure, but might want to consider a 2.6 million expenditure in making people actually aware of the parks and other areas that go virtually unused. The State would probably come out ahead on camping fees alone.

Then, there’s also this baloney (raiding of dedicated funds):
