Police armed with pistols in heavily gun-controlled European countries are realizing a hard lesson fast–jihadists with no respect for the law are side-stepping gun control and stockpiling weapons that will give them the upper hand in confrontations with officers.
Europol chief of staff Brian Donald says there were two “large seizures” of firearms–particularly “assault weapons”–over the last two weeks and more seizures are expected as investigations and tracking continues.

Gun control in Europe obviously does not apply to the police. They can be armed with whatever weapons the government wants them to carry.
I don’t think it’s a good idea for routine police patrol officers to carry excessively powerful weapons, owing to the potential to stupidity and accidents. But they should have them at hand if they need them, like in the trunk of the cop car.
How do you say “DUH” in several languages? And yet we have the truly ignorant in our country as well, who think it’s a fine idea to leave the citizens of their nation unarmed, while criminals attack with weapons of every kind. Indefensible to be so untethered to the real world…..
But.....gun laws keep the guns out of the wrong hands and Islam is a religion of Peace. Keep repeating that while they kill you.

Police has become prime target of “pretend-muslims” because they know that the general population is defenseless once the police has been taken care of.
This is allegedly how the Paris jihadists got their weapons, including an RPG.
And there have been lots of weapons from WWII floating around for decades: a lot of German ammo dumps and supply depots were just bulldozed over by the Allies after WWII, allowing an enterprising man with a shovel the possibility of recovering a lot of weaponry-- if it was packed in cosmoline, it's probably still in good shape.
A couple of years ago some guy in Berlin was arrested for trying to sell a restored Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun and some MG42's he had dug up in prime condition somewhere. With ammo.
