A hotel staffed by ten multilingual robots is set to open later this year in Japan.

When the Henn-na Hotel opens in July, it will be run by robots that can greet guests before carrying their luggage to their rooms. When guests leave, the robots will be able to clear their rooms, ready for the next human to come and stay.

The robots are styled to look like a young Japanese woman. They can speak fluent Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English, and can respond to guest’s body language, eye contact and tone. …

I wonder how long it will be until we have robots that are, as Mr. Data described himself in Star Trek-TNG, “fully functional”.

On a different note, the tech is there to create a much cheaper robot that could simply report whether “Dad” had wandered off the property...

“Well at least we won’t need as many Illegal aliens anymore””

I’m sure that’s one of the major reasons the Japanese are developing personal robots. Their experiments in the 80s and 90s with Japanese-South Americans and with turning a blind eye to Asian illegals didn’t work out very well.

"Henn-na Hotel staffed by robots to open in Japan"

A copy of this story should be passed out with the headline in 24 point boldface type anytime there is a demonstration such as these -

“We” won’t need as many ‘American citizens’ anymore, either..

and “we” can be counted on to get rid of THEM, the American citizens, first... if only because they cause ‘us’ so damned much trouble, they keep mouthing off that they have ‘rights’ and they keep posting insults about ‘us’ on sites like this

and they want higher wages than ‘our’ favorite workers, the illegal aliens ‘we’re’ importing

We lived in Navy housing that overlooked Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo. Never saw the real attraction of the place, although I understand it was moderately successful in its early years. Lately it has had a lot of financial troubles and changed ownership.

The green-roofed buildings in the right background are the Navy housing area. The towers in the distance are part of a WWII Japanese Navy antennae array.
