Foreign minister says Paris to advance Security Council resolution on peace negotiations; EU weighing new action to pressure Israel on talks.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) Frances foreign minister said Friday his country will move forward on discussions with its partners on a possible UN Security Council resolution that could present a framework for negotiations toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Laurent Fabius said there is no other solution. He spoke to reporters Friday at UN headquarters before planning to leave for the Iran nuclear talks in Switzerland.
France put off a previous council resolution to wait for the results of Israels election. Now Fabius indicated that France will take up that effort again as soon as Israels new government is formed.
Fabius said he didnt know what the United States, Israels ally, would agree to.
At the same time European Union officials said Friday the EU was assessing new ways to push Israel back to the peace negotiating table with the Palestinians for a deal based on a two-state solution.

Just think of it this way ... take all the sanctions applied to Iran, and then calculate how well Israel would stand up to all of that!
Good way to view this - transferring the sanctions from enemy to friend, from Iran to Israel.
Sickening the way this is going.
Bunch of cowardly bullies. Why don’t they rule for Putin to get out of Ukraine?
End times, all nations will stand against Israel.
Big deal. If hot air was valuable, the UN would be King Croesus. UN resolutions are not worth the used toilet tissue they’re printed on.
“Just think of it this way ... take all the sanctions applied to Iran, and then calculate how well Israel would stand up to all of that!”
Israel will just move their relationships to the far east. Want to see America and Europe crap its pants, just watch when Israel provides China and India with advanced avionics systems.
Just think of it this way: what if Israel were to apply its own sanctions, and stop its export of water, electricity, medical care and other products and services to neighbors it disapproved of?
You would see military action in short order on behalf of the EU and the Obama Administration, if the Israeli government didn’t relent.
I actually don’t think it would get to military action, because if the new government did that, it would collapse in short order and there would be a new one formed in Israel in order to “work with” the EU and the Obama Administration, instead of setting up circumstances inviting sanctions and military action.
And actually, I know Prime Minister isn’t so stupid as to invite those circumstances ... just like he was “pragmatic” in listening to the IDF in releasing funds to the P.A. ...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows how to keep Israel “walking the line” and keep Israel safe in the meantime.
“You would see military action in short order on behalf of the EU and the Obama Administration, if the Israeli government didnt relent.”
But the EU has already told us that there is “no other solution”, implying military action is unthinkable. Really, what the EU has been doing is taking sides in a proxy war that they won’t call a war. Unfortunately, they’ve chosen the side that wants to annihilate its neighbor.
Did you read "The Ezekial Option?"
I remember when Israel was almost overrun in 1973 and Golda Meier was almost ready to pull out the nuclear weapons, but at the last minute, things turned around with the military defenses, so they pulled them back.
The only thing about that ... is as I said before ... Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows what he needs to do to accommodate the world powers and at the same time, work towards the TWO-STATE SOLUTION that he has affirmed repeatedly that he is working towards, per Bar-Ilan.
I wouldn’t worry about those kinds of theoretical situations which would be created by a “crazy Israeli government” ... LOL ... because Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is VERY PRAGMATIC in how he governs and protects Israel!
Is there any doubt that Obama will be receptive to imposing the same sanctions on Israel as those being lifted from Iran?
They need to be careful. If they upend Oslo, what would Israel’s legal responsibilities be to the Palestinians? Cooperation on tax revenues, water distribution, import/exports/job permits, and scores of other essential services would be put in jeopardy. If they say that cooperation between the two sides will not work now, I am not sure how they think it will work afterwards.
