IRS won't penalize people for failing to say they have health insurance on tax form
Washington Examiner ^ | 3/30/15 | Robert King

For the first time, a majority of taxpayers will have to check a box on their tax return attesting they have health insurance either through their job or Medicare or Medicaid.

But what happens if they miss it, which can easily happen on the complex form?

The Internal Revenue Service told the Washington Examiner it will not penalize anyone who has insurance but neglected to check the box.

However, a taxpayer may be asked by the agency if they have health insurance if their return is flagged during a routine check.

"The IRS routinely follows-up on the accuracy and completeness of tax returns, and in this situation, taxpayers should be prepared to respond to correspondence," said Ubon Mendie, a spokesman for the IRS.

Nearly 1 person in 6 doesn't want to get insurance because they don't believe in the law.

If the IRS can just make up the law, why can't the people do the same?

Not yet, not as long as the ACA still hangs in the balance.

Afterwards, though, once they feel safe the IRS will take a bigger bite every year.

I don’t have insurance because I don’t believe in the law.

It is what John Adams called “sacrificing your comfort”. If not now, when?

IRS audits only 1 in 100 tax returns. Play the odds!

Hmmmm...I wonder how they will decide which taxpayers they will “flag”? Unfortunately, since the statist libs who infest the IRS will obviously be able to view the recipients of a taxpayer’s charitable contributions, they would easily be able to cherry pick conservatives to harass over this.

They are doing this to inflate the number of people that are supposed to have insurance. I makes the ACA look more successful. It has nothing to do with helping the people.

The same way that illegal aliens can check off “US citizen” and know they will never be asked about it, and vote.

They think if they can make it "too big to fail" they can bluff the USSC into ruling in their favor on subsidies.

About 140 million taxpayer “units” filed last year. What if most of them overlooked the box? That would sure make a lot of work for some of the people who collect taxes.

Excellent. I don't recall voting on this and I do not want it.

In fact I have yet to read the entire Obamacare regulations as it covers nearly 20,000 pages, with things changing all the time. Due to time restraint's this will take me years to complete.

I have been entertained by the insurance “fine”. Most of my lib Obama-fan friends have to pay it. They do their W-4’s so they get a big “tax return” (refund) and this cuts into their big Obamacheck this year.

I didn't have healthcare.

How did your Mother die?

She had Obamacare and they wouldn't give her a bypass.
