Obama’s Chicago Presidency
National Review Onlline ^ | March 31, 2015 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 04/04/2015 7:21:28 AM PDT by aragorn

Senator Robert Menendez (D., N.J.) was a vocal critic both of President Obama’s executive-action opening to Cuba and his nuclear non-proliferation talks with Iran. In the midst of his loud opposition, he found himself suddenly the target of renewed federal charges that had aired much earlier without consequence. I think the message was not that the administration was worried over appearances, but rather that it wished to remind all of Washington that it actually welcomed the appearance of not being worried over the idea of federal prosecutorial power being used for tit-for-tat vendettas. Malice is a valuable political tool for Barack Obama.

...

What then is the full Obama presidency? It is the quest for extralegal power not just by ignoring the law, tradition, or custom, but by doing so flagrantly and without concern, to the point of rendering critics impotent — and thereby accruing even more power to enrage and embarrass them.

The interesting part now is who will become Baraq 2.0?

Will the Chicago Mob let the Clinton Crime Family have their “turn” in 2016 or will they do a takedown of Hillary and put somebody like Warren in?

When accused of targeting Menendez for criticizing Obama, their defense was that he had been under investigation for several years.

Which only proves the point. They knew about him for years. As long as he stayed in line, he was teflon. The moment he spoke out of turn, though, the hammer fell.

This is documentation of a full on dictatorship. Obama can never relinquish power. Ex dictators usually meet a bad end.

"We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them...you create a nation of lawbreakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Rearden." -- Dr Floyd Ferris, "Atlas Shrugged".

It's especially useful when the men are not so innocent. The dirty politician is allowed to be dirty as long as he works for the team. But, if he steps out of line, you can crush him. Everyone can be crushed at any time. Everyone is a law-breaker. That's the goal. Then everyone lives in fear.

This is why the GOP doesn't oppose Obama...they have the files on them, and while the Clinton Cartel would expose character flaws, the Obama-Jarrett Cartel will put people away in prison (remember Dinesh D'Souza?)

This is why I admired Jesse Helms so much. He was so above-board and had so much integrity, that even when the Clinton Cartel could never intimidate him...and this is why I love Ted Cruz. The Obama Cartel can't find anything on him, else it'd already been brought to light.

Another thing: this has been set up so that if the next President happens to be conservative and tries to clean up the incredible mess that has been made over the last six years, then all of a sudden all the media lies and coverups about the economy, unemployment and every other indicator will cease, the full truth will be known, and all the blame will be placed at the foot of the new President, who will be left with a huge problem to try to solve and constant attacks and criticism from the left and the media.

Ingenious and diabolical. Raid the treasury, destroy the economy, corrupt the culture, open the borders to invasion, destroy our alliances then get off scot-free while blaming the other guy with full support of the media. I wonder how tyhese people can look at themselves in the mirror?

Hillary! only had her FBI files. Obama has not only FBI files, but the full power of the NSA turned inward, as well as the club that is the IRS and the shield that is the media. What he does not have are the morals nor strength of character to resist using all of his power for personal gain and petty revenge.

The last barrier to the downfall of the republic seems to be the 25th amendment. Wait until next year to see how they try and game that.

Thank you for posting. VDH, in my opinion, here writes the single most succinct, most all-encompassing, most precise description of the insidiousness, the rottenness, the utter depravity that is this administration.

Very accurate assessment:
What then is the full Obama presidency? It is the quest for extralegal power not just by ignoring the law, tradition, or custom, but by doing so flagrantly and without concern, to the point of rendering critics impotent — and thereby accruing even more power to enrage and embarrass them.

In similar circumstances, the Roman biographer Suetonius noted of the Twelve Caesars that the offense itself was not so much the point, but rather the demonstration of committing the offense with impunity and disdain.

It leaves me a bit stupefied by obama's supporters, as well as by all of those in power who took an oath to resist, but instead assist or just look the other way.

People seem to be just waiting for the clock to run out on his time in office, but appearances and experience suggest the game has changed and there is no clock any more.

Apparently, "Interesting times" were too boring, so we re-elected obama.
