A new report released by the Family Research Council’s Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI) says that only 16 percent of 15- to 17-year-old teens in Baltimore have been raised in an intact, married family.
The report, released Wednesday and compiled in light of the recent Baltimore riots, cites Census Bureau statistics showing that, in terms of family units, Baltimore is “one of the five least intact counties of America,” along with Cuyahoga, Ohio; the Bronx, N.Y.; the District of Columbia; and Shelby County, Tenn.
The report cites studies indicating that children who grow up in intact, married families are least likely to experience poverty during their youth, because married families generally earn higher incomes than stepfamilies, cohabiting families, divorced families, separated families, and single-parent families.
The report says children raised in intact, married families tend to have better educational attainment and achievement than those from non-intact families. They are more likely to achieve higher education after graduating from high school than those from other family structures.
There is a profound crisis in the black community, not just in Baltimore, but nationwide --the crisis is in marriage and family,” Bishop E. W. Jackson...
“Seventy two percent of children are born out of wedlock. Too many fathers are missing from the home, and an alarming number of mothers are still children themselves. Boys in these circumstances are inculcated with the values of the streets, and become susceptible to every negative influence...
“Instead of pursuing education, many embrace the attitude of victimization. Instead of seeking employment, too many prefer to hustle. Race and poverty become excuses for criminality. These social pathologies are perpetuated from one generation to the next.

A triumph of liberalism.
And the churches are utterly failing their children. They do not demand marriage, education, responsibility and morality. When the church fails the culture is lost.
It can be changed, but not within the present system which rewards non-family-formation and nonmarital childbearing, and renders husbands/fathers redundant. And to change the present system and rescue people from lifelong, degrading dependency would take a revolution. I mean that literally.
Does the figure this article cites apply to Baltimore as a whole, or only to those predominately Black neighborhoods?
If this figure applies to the entire city, then I shudder to think how few of the 15- to 17-year-olds in the mostly Black areas of town live in intact families.

This used to be universal knowledge. It is time to jettison the present social libertinism and return to the moral standards that our ancestors knew for thousands of years.
Just recently I was talking with libinlaws about their son’s PhD dissertation.
It was, predictably, about solving all social ills through some sort of directed planning.
His conclusion was that everyone just needed jobs.
When I brought up the counter study that showed that THE correlative factor for staying out of jail and out of poverty was married parents, they of course, rejected the notion.

Anybody else remember how Dan Quayle was slammed and pilloried by the liberals? He observed that a popular TV show had a character who had a baby without a husband, and how TV was presenting it as just another lifestyle choice.
He was slammed mercilessly by the liberals for his statements about unwed parenting. Ever since, politicos have barely ever touched this subject.
Since it’s politically incorrect to talk about marriage and parenting and how it’s better to raise children in intact families, we’re not allowed to talk about it anymore. The fact that so many children, especially minority children, are brought up in single parent households or ad hoc circumstances, is not allowed by liberals to be discussed as among the problems of ghetto life.
And then a few years later, Candice Bergen basically came out and all but said that Quayle was right.

Democrats are the party that largely opposed the Civil Rights Act and similar legislation.
Democrats are also the party of social welfare...and look at the results: in 1940, before the welfare state really got up and running, black families had a lower incidence of divorce and illegitimacy than white families (and it wasn’t all that high in either case). As of about 30 years ago, blacks had over 50% illegitimacy, and it has only deteriorated since then. We (meaning Democrats) INSIST on continuing to fund programs that make it OK to have children with no father present, which reward women for having as many kids as possible without getting married (which typically means multiple biological fathers for the kids in a given household), and continued dependence upon government for EVERYTHING. This is all about votes, and the Democrats have KNOWINGLY destroyed the future of blacks in this country by destroying the most critical social unit in any society, the nuclear family.
I wish that we had more Republicans and/or conservatives coming out and saying this.

Well not really "liberalism," but what the compulsive neurotics, who embrace the values of Egalitarian/Collectivists (Communists & their 'want to be' allies) have wrought in the name of "liberalism."
One has to be careful on this subject, not to confuse cause & effect, as both the breakup of the family and the associated poverty, etc., are reinforcing but kindred effects of the same Egalitarian collectivist pursuits; but it is a fact that most of the social malaise of societies in what were once first world nations, flows from the same idiocy--the war on nature & reality, in which the Left persists.
It is truly A "Gift" That Keeps On Taking; and our whole civilization is going to go down in flames unless we find a way to wake people up to how truly counter-productive are most of the reforms that have been forced upon us by those compulsion driven neurotics & the demagogues who know how to pull their strings.
