FDA recommends ending lifetime ban on gay men donating blood

The Obama administration is calling for the end to a lifetime ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, acknowledging that the policy “is perceived by some as discriminatory.”

The Food and Drug Administration proposed new rules on Tuesday that would roll back the ban, though it still restricts gay men from donating blood if they have had sex with another man within a year.

The proposal still marks the country’s biggest step yet toward changing the 30-year-old prohibition.

Critics of the ban, which was enacted during the national AIDS epidemic in 1983 and last updated in 1992, say it ignores mounds of scientific evidence concluding that blood donations from gay men pose no risk than the greater public if properly screened. The FDA said in its draft rules that the ban has become less effective over time, admitting that “some individuals knowingly donate despite the deferral."

The agency will now collect public comments on the rule for 60 days.

The American Medical Association quickly praised the move, releasing a statement that called it “a step in the right direction to end the lifetime ban that prohibits men who have had sex with men (MSM) from ever donating blood.”

Homosexuals are not going to lie about whether had sodomy over the last year? If this change is made, next they will target the 12 month ban. The left cares only about normalizing homosexuality, public health be damned.

Let's see who in the GOP has the guts to make this an issue.

acknowledging that the policy “is perceived by some as discriminatory.”

So, public health policy is now determined by "perception" rather than a preponderance of fact?

Talk about a lawsuit just waiting to happen. They are more co cerned with politics than people’s health. That does it. Whoever votes Yes on this has proven they are unfit to serve for lack of better judgement

Burglars still break in and steal, despite knowing the law is against it. So screw it. Let's make burglary legal.

The lawsuit will be thrown out, and I guarantee you, no one will EVER get AIDS from a blood transfusion. They promise.

So what blood bank is going to risk lawsuits from those infected with bad blood? So if caught between a rock (infected homo blood) and a hard place (lawsuits), then blood supply will get outsourced to countries that can control their homosexuals. Just what I want, imported Chinese blood.

I always suspected the radical gays lied to enable donating anyway. That’s why red cross has to screen all blood sample for hiv.

You’d think that the sodomites would have enough common sense to not donate blood themselves. But having a sodomite (probably many) in our White House, I’m sure that gives them the confidence to infect everyone else.

I wonder if Obama will go down for the father of lies as a patron saint for creating plagues and pestilence. (I know the question will answer itself, but I had to ask)

Ryan White got a tainted blood transfusion and died of AIDS.

But that’ll never happen now, right?!

No problem as long as the donation is classified as from a homosexual and given only to other homosexuals.

You’re homophobic if you don’t accept AIDS into your life.

Seriously! Who in their right mind can think that it is a good idea to expose the public to the diseases carried by homosexuals? Does the FDA need the public to explain this to them? Sheesh!

Quick!!!! Tell me how to get in contact with the people that issued this opinion. I have bridges to sell them!!!!

This level of stupid ought to be criminal. They should literally go to jail if someone gets an infection from a homosexual blood donor.

LOL, that's a good one!

Next maybe they'll retract that whole "religion of peace" thing.
