RIP
The common thread in the anecdotes seems to be lack of education or awareness. Read the insert — it spells out all the conceivable (pardon) complications and side effects. All the required warnings won’t fit on the packaging in large bold print.
Pulmonary embolism is pretty challenging to diagnose and is frequently missed. The use of birth control pills and sudden dyspnea were good clues for something as risky as PE.
Who hasn’t seen a TV commercial about a new miracle drug that either cures or relieves some painful condition? And how about the 30 second listing of side effects associated with the new miracle drug that transfers the responsibility for the adverse reactions to the user or his/her physician? And how many other drugs would be prescribed to alleviate the side effects? And how many other side effects result from the additional medications? And..........
She had a future that will never be, because nothing is more important than consequence-free sex.
Ya think they are gonna stop all birth control pills?
I am a male in my mid 80’s who rcently had a clot in my leg and lungs.
My doctor sent me to a vascular specialist who found thaat I have Factor V Leiden mutation.
Look it up. Too long to explain here.
I suspect that many of the cases discussed in this article have the mutation.
Certainly any woman who is going on the pill should be tested for it.
Three doctors missed the fact that I have it, possibly because I am far beyond the age where the problem usually shows up.
All the more reason that young people should have the test before using any drug that might cause clotting and also before any major operation that might cause clotting.
“Fallans devastated mother was quoted in the Birmingham Mail, She was only on it to regulate her periods.”
Absolutely tragic. The poor woman was on on birth control to regulate her periods and she ends up dead.
THERE IS A SAFE ALTERNATIVE:
“NFP It Aint Your Mommas Rhythm”

I highly recommend the following website:
When you read the comments from patients about the side effects they are or were experiencing, the majority of patients state that they were told by their doctors that their side effects were all in their head or due to their age. LOL
NFP will not address menstrual irregularities. Neither will hormonal bcp. Only a real endocrine workup can even give a hint of a real diagnosis. Everything else is just, “See symptom X, apply prescription Y.”
Sounds to me like she was killed by the one who misdiagnosed.
umm... without going into the grisly details, when Mrs. BigDaddy and I were married, we didn’t want children quite yet. So we had “consequence-free” sex for several years. I assume you have a problem with that?
She took a drug. All drugs have risks. As do walking down the street, driving a car, and laying in bed sleeping (i know a guy who was killed when a limb crashed through is house and killed him in bed).
Mostmof the time of a new drug ad talks about its dangers and side effects.
When is the last time a damn vitamin had to spend mot of its time about its dangers and side effdcfs?
Hell they send people home that have all, sorts of serious medical issues and they just tell them rest and tylenol.
IIRC, Obama gave that advice at one point.
Thanks for oversimplifying it.
Low dose contraceptives do help regulate periods for some women who can have pretty unpleasant ones otherwise. I am a guy and even I know this.
And while some people use it for preventing pregnancy from sex, they can still face disease, or pregnancy if they dont take it correctly. I’d rather have people who know they dont want kids and would half ass parent and give the world more Trayvons and Mike Browns as a result, to take steps to prevent it from happening.
Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
The 21st Century.
Advice, directive, potato, potata. :)
I’m not against an “endocrine workup” but the fact remains THE PILL CAUSES BLOOD CLOTS and NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING DOES NOT, and it is effective!
“Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a safe, natural and effective way to postpone, avoid or achieve pregnancy.

Billings Ovulation Method: www.boma-usa.org: This basic ovulation method has wide appeal among diverse cultures. Used in more than 120 countries, with 3.6 million couples in China. Also offered in Spanish.”

Plus, as excerpt states, woman can use the same knowledge, if they want to get pregnant.
