All motorcar racing is declining. I watched the Indy Car race in Texas on television and there couldn't have been more than 10,000 people in the stands. This is one instance where NASCAR is just biting the hand that feeds it.
Grandstands at Sonoma Raceway last Sunday were about 80% full on turns 3, 4 and 7. I think many showed up to say good-bye to Jeff.
Watching the jets fly by, the huge American flag go by behind the pickup truck, and the Star Spangled Banner just didn’t move me the way they used to. Had a feeling of ennui and “it’s over - why bother?”
