6. We Were Soldiers.

It defies the conventional wisdom that the left would have us believe actually happened in Vietnam.

Honestly, my biggest regret of that war is that Jane Fonda wasn’t lined up in front of a ditch, covered over, and forgotten about just like all the Vietnamese who actually did have to pay that penalty instead of her.

If there is a hell, she’s on the slow track to it. Darn it.

What about “Lone Survivor”?

Saw that a couple of weekends ago and loved it. Not as good as “American Sniper”, but still showed American soldiers at their bravest.

Try the early Viet Nam movie with Burt Lancaster, “Go tell the Spartans”, I was told by a career officer back in the late 70’s that it was as close as to what was happening during the earlier days before the massive influx of GIs.

Red Dawn should be just beneath The Green Berets. I've never known a cold war era Leftist that didn't start foaming at the mouth whenever Red Dawn was mentioned by someone in a neutral manner. Mentioning it in a positive manner around a Leftist simply wasn't safe.

Sergeant York was IMO the greatest war movie ever made; I'm almost, ALMOST tempted to think Gary Cooper made a better Sergeant York than Sergeant York himself.

The movie Patton, in deference to an old guy I knew who didn't think well of Patton, was actually pretty danged good and was scripted from a real biography of him.

Speaking of Gary Cooper, he was in a movie about WWII naval aviation called "Task Force", with Walter Brennan and I forget who else. Probably doesn't get much show these days because of a rather politically incorrect snippet with some black sailors.

Also I thought Midway, with Harlton Cheston was good.

Let's see, what else...

Well, anything with John Wayne in it... The Sands of Iwo Jima, The Fighting Seabees.

"Battle of the Bulge" was rather insipid...

Oh, yeah... Twelve O'clock High.

I'll think of some more.

And more recently, American Sniper gets five stars.

“The Final Option” (aka “Who Dares Wins” in Britain) was also a good pro-western movies made in the 80’s. It was set in the cold war climate in which it was made. While it takes place in England and the main hero is British, it has a pro-American/pro-western message which was rare for the time, and even rarer now. Liberal film critics hated it, so that tells alot.

No movie brought tears to my eyes, the way our men valiantly fought and died, like Saving Private Ryan.

THAT movie wants to make you thank a WWII vet.

GWTW? That doesn’t rate in this collection AT ALL!

I love the movie, but even with the joy of angering liberals, it doesn’t even rate a mention in a list of patriotic movies.

If series count, what about Band of Brothers? I also liked The Pacific and I think of From the Earth to the Moon as a patriotic flick.

For patriotic movies, it's hard to beat "The Best Years of Our Lives" starring Fredric March, Dana Andrews and Harold Russell.

The film is about three United States servicemen readjusting to civilian life after coming home from World War II.

Released in 1946, won seven Academy Awards.
