I have always believed that Chamberlain got that deal while knowing it was a bad deal. But, he needed time to allow the British to at least build up their forces and prepare for war.

True.

Chamberlain bough Britain another year or so to re arm.

If the time table for WWII had been moved up by by one year, the British would probably have lost the Battle of Britain. As it was, it was a very close thing.
