City Marshal Brian Pope has confirmed for The Daily Advertiser that six people were injured in a shooting Thursday night at the Grand Theatre.
The shooter then turned the gun on himself, Pope said, and is dead.
Katie Domingue of Carencro was at the 7 p.m. showing of “Train Wreck” with her fiance’, Joshua Doggett. About 20 minutes into the movie, Domingue said, she heard a loud noise.
“We heard a loud pop we thought was a firecracker,” she said.
She saw “an older white man” standing up and shooting down, not in her direction.
“He wasn’t saying anything. I didn’t hear anybody screaming either,” Domingue said.
She heard about six shots, then she and Doggett ran to the nearest exit, leaving behind her shoes and purse.

I have both a daughter and a grandson living in Lafayette. I’m happy that neither of them went to that theater today!
If the murderer is dead, you’d figure they’d know his name and identity by now.
Perhaps they’re busily erasing his Facebook history.

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — Latest developments
10:43 p.m. ET: A 58-year-old white male who was a theater patron fired multiple shots, said Sgt. Brooks David. The shooter was acting alone and is deceased, he said. There were about 100 people inside at the time.
10:42 p.m.: In addition to the shooter, another victim is dead. There are at least nine others injured, David said.
Clay Henry with Acadian Ambulance said the wounded were taken to three area hospitals. He described the injuries as “wide and varied.”
The shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Sgt. James Anderson of the Louisiana State Police said. It wasn’t clear if the shooter was included among the dead list
The shooting inside the Grand Theatre 16 involved “multiple victims,” the police department tweeted. Police said they received the call about 7:30 p.m. CT.
The scene immediately after the shooting was chaotic.
“A whole bunch of girls started screaming and we heard that someone was shot,” Roxy Martinez told CNN affiliate KATC. “There were a lot of people running.”
Her brother saw a woman who had been shot in the stomach.
“I see a lady full of blood in a dress,” Robert Martinez said. “She was just looking at me in complete fear.”
Todd Moffatt, manager of a Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant in the area, said 20 to 30 emergency vehicles had arrived on the scene. The area was locked down, he said.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tweeted, “I’m on my way to Lafayette right now. Please say a prayer for the victims at Grand Theatre and their families.”

UPDATE (10:04 p.m.) – From the presser, the weapon was a handgun but we don’t know what make. Also, no determination of whether this was a domestic situation – there are social media rumors that this centered around a man who wanted to kill his wife, but there’s no confirmation of any of that – or something else.
The identity of the shooter is known, but not released. He’s 58 years old.
