Microaggression, Macro-Crazy
City Journal ^ | Summer 2015 | By Heather Mac Donald

Posted on 08/16/2015 1:39:44 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

Early this year, the University of California’s president, Janet Napolitano, asked all deans and department chairs in the university’s ten campuses to undergo training in overcoming their “implicit biases” toward women and minorities. The department heads also needed training, according to the UC president, in how to avoid committing microaggressions, those acts of alleged racism that are invisible to the naked eye. A more insulting and mindless exercise would be hard to imagine. But Napolitano’s seminar possesses a larger significance: it demolishes any remaining hope that college administrators possess a firmer grip on reality than the narcissistic students over whom they preside.

The “Fostering Inclusive Excellence: Strategies and Tools for Department Chairs and Deans” seminar presumes that University of California faculty are so bigoted that they will refuse to hire the most qualified candidate for a professorship if that candidate happens to be female or an “underrepresented minority”—i.e., black or Hispanic. Attendees at the seminar were subjected to an “interactive theater scenario” called “Ready to Vote?” that showed white male computer-science professors on a fictional hiring committee belittling females and failing to “value diversity.” The author of the scenario, a professor of performance studies and ethnic studies at the University of California, San Diego, seems never to have attended a faculty-hiring committee meeting in her life. Nor, it would seem, has Janet Napolitano. . .

Affirmative action is microaggression. Shouting down candidates running for POTUS is microaggression. Zero-tolerance policies? Microagression. The Democratic Party is microaggression. Banning the flying of the US flag is microaggression. Criminalization of free speech is microaggression...

Off topic but never understood how Napolitano was hired to run the Univ of Calif system. What experience did she have which would uniquely qualify her to run a university system? Did she have any experience in higher education? How did her name get on the short list of candidates? Why was she on the short list when she is from Arizona?

That’s one of many reasons why we were glad to be rid of her as Gov of AZ.

Theodore Dalrymple, in a recent interview:

"Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to."(from Freeper dodger's homepage)

Why not have a seminar on how not to anger the invisible flying boogaloo monster that no one can see except trainers hired at over $200/hour?

Just be honest about it.

Excellent post. The true purpose of PC is psychological dominance, and it works. 100 million dead in communist countries, as well as Hillary’s knee jerk supporters, prove that. PC is as evil as it gets, and has caused more death than any other device.

Janet Napolitano needs to undergo training in overcoming her "implicit biases" toward America.

Implicit Bias Training...

Instructor: "Have you quit hating minorities yet?"

White Student: "Ahh...is this a rhetorical question?"

Rewrite history, change the meaning of words, outlaw the use of certain words, we are now into 1984 territory.

Janet Neo-dorko is an ignorant...

As such, she is serving in a fitting position.

Why, oh why, do the STEM deoartments of these universities not split so that they are not embarassed by the third grade idiots running the place.

Face it, take away the true academic departments and what funds the sewage that remains?

Some people go out of their way to find something to be offended about.

If they can’t find something to be offended about, they make up something be offended about.

The bigger problem is that they spawn and many of those spawns grow up in the same mindset.
