Ted Cruz talks scripture and presidential crusade at Koch brothers-funded event
The Guardian ^ | Saturday 22 August 2015 | Guardian staff and agencies

The Texas senator and Republican presidential campaigner Ted Cruz on Saturday told a Koch brothers-sponsored gathering he would have a busy agenda on his first day in the White House.

Speaking to activists at the annual summit of Americans for Prosperity (AFP) in Columbus, Ohio, Cruz said if elected he would rescind “every single illegal and unconstitutional executive order” signed by President Barack Obama, begin investigating the women’s health organisation Planned Parenthood, “rip to shreds” the Iranian nuclear deal and order all federal agencies to end the religious persecution of Christians.

Cruz – who on Friday night in Iowa was publicly challenged on LGBT rights by the actress Ellen Paige – was the first of three GOP presidential contenders to speak on Saturday to a packed crowd.

Florida senator Marco Rubio and former Texas governor Rick Perry were the others. The former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal spoke on Friday.

Cruz peppered his address with jokes, scriptural references and jabs at Obama and the Democratic frontrunner for 2016 Hillary Clinton. He said he was the best choice among the 17-strong Republican field because he would always do what he said he was going to do.

Among Cruz’s jokes was a remark that he would like to see the Internal Revenue Service discontinued and its 90,000 employees used to guard the US-Mexico border.

Rubio, following Cruz, told the audience US economic growth was lagging because other countries were doing better at what the US set in motion but abandoned.

---

The crowd cheered often during his 20-minute speech, and laughed at his jokes, though not as fervently as they did during Cruz’s speech. Unlike Cruz, who appeared in shirtsleeves, Rubio, at 43 the youngest GOP candidate, wore a dark suit, white shirt and Republican-red tie.

Ted just needs to hold the course, keep making this type of appearance and build the ground game until the field narrows, and he can get more speaking time at debates, where he will shine.

Rubio is just too boyish looking and acting. Perry...well, he was a good governor for us Texans and might be a pretty good President if he could get in, but just doesn’t have the ability to think on his feet and articulate the benefits of conservative policies for the nation.

Ted is wrong on “rip up the Iran deal” as most of the candidates are - per Breitbart:

Everything the commie ‘RATs do appears to be Soros-funded. Why don’t we ever see that in print?

I think this chart on Trump is bogus - he says over and over he is strong on 2nd Amendment - he hasn’t voted on anything to really be rated on.

Yes, of course./sarcasm

It's too bad that this rating is based from deeds, not talks. Otherwise, all "campaign Conservative" candidates would have gotten all green for every issue for their supporters to brag about.

We have to have a strong man as president. One who is able to persuade Congress. I will not accept that Congress is no longer a viable institution. The dots are fine. Good to know their respective positions.

But the man has to be able to turn that into a movement. Only Trump has been able to do that. And if you look at what he has actually done, ...he’s effectively shut down political correctness and the LSM who peddle it. That’s only the beginning.

Is this the event where the Newsboys were? Or is that another Cruz event?

I see Ted Cruz as a strong principled, God-centered man with a solid U.S. Constitution background. This country cannot be restored back to a Constitutional republic without returning to God as it was founded.

This is not a time for testing a candidate to see whether they are Conservative. We need the only proven Conservative as POTUS now.

The event with Newsboys was "Rally for Religious Liberty," which was held on Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa. This event was American for Prosperity's Defending the American Dream, which was held on Friday and Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. Ted Cruz spoke on Saturday.

Great. Like the Newsboys a lot, and while Tait is a great singer, I miss Peter and the sound they had with him.
