Let me take this opportunity to thank you personally for your efforts on this thread series. IIRC, you began with the year 1938, a year before the war. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. You put a lot of effort into posting the microfilms of the NY Times and other dox.
I’ve been an amateur WW2 historian ever since I was old enough to read in the mid ‘50s, but I learned a lot here from the various posters.

I knew a Bob Trout; he flew B-24s over Germany, so I don’t think it was this guy.
Bob told me that after basic flight training, the rumor was that if you tested into Navigation school, you would be assigned to fly transport planes. So he studied for the entrance test, passed, and went to Navigation school. When the school finished, the class got their orders.
Every single one of them was assigned “Heavy Bombardment.”
