Traded to the Phillies by the Pittsburgh Pirates on 31 March 1945, DiMaggio finishes the season with a .257 batting average and 19 home runs for the last place Phillies.”

They are still in last place.

The Phillies have historically been one of the NL’s less successful teams. Like the Cubs; last year at Wrigley Field an elderly man did the ceremonial delivery of the ball to home plate in celebration of his 100th birthday. It was pretty cool until I realized the last time the Cubs won the world series was six years before he was born.
