Texas Police Release Video of Potentially Deadly Traffic Stop
The Blaze ^ | 9/2/15 | Jason Howerton

A police officer in Trinity, Texas, was forced to make an incredibly difficult split-second decision during a tense August 29 traffic stop when a man reached for a gun in the front passenger seat.

Officer Randy Wheeler drew his firearm and ordered the suspect to keep his hands up and outside of the car — but it’s an incident that easily could’ve resulted in death or tragedy.

Trinity Police Chief Steven Jones said the police department chose to release video of Wheeler’s scary traffic stop from two different angles to prove a major point about the type of split-second decisions cops are forced to make on a daily basis.

“Based on the dash cam video, you might assume that Officer Wheeler is being overly aggressive towards the driver for no reason,” Wheeler wrote in a Facebook post. “If Officer Wheeler would have shot the driver, it could have sparked an outrage based on that limited view.”

He continued: “Now, with Officer Wheeler’s body camera you will learn how dangerous the stop could have been. Officer Wheeler had a split second to decide to shoot or not to shoot the driver.”

How many people could deal with these situations and make life or death decisions in seconds?

It’s all about attitude. Had the driver been cocky with a bad attitude he probably would be dead.

The suspect seen in the video was eventually charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon.

What?!?! There's protection afforded by the Second Amendment and thus carrying a weapon ought not ever be "unlawful" no matter the time or place.

An armed society is a polite society. More guns = lower crime!

The deputy assigned to patrol my little town says its like a paid vacation coming out here. People deal with their own disputes and there is virtually no crime aside from the occasional break in to a barn or something.

He was telling me that things are pretty tense in the more urban parts of the county. He said he got tasered a few weeks back when a guy lunged at him out of the blue and the other cop used his taser. It turned out that the guy had some serious warrants out of Florida.

I’m curious as to why it was “unlawful” also.

Mistake one for the guy was driving without headlights.
Mistake two was not announcing that he had one at the beginning.

Glad nobody got hurt.

We must all be very thankful to policemen all over our country. Especially now in these times of muslim extremism. Besides protecting us every day, these same policemen will be called if, for example -there is a extremist terrorist filthbag muslim wielding a gun or a bomb in public buildings - movie theaters, malls etc.

If the stupid "Gun Free Zones" didn't exist in hussein's America, the police wouldn't even need to get involved. Patriots who are protected by the Second Amendment would be armed and thus take out the bad guys before the situation escalated. It's like the days of the not-so Wild West when guns were plentiful but crime was scarce.

Guns equal freedom!

“Street cops, are expected to be able to do this everyday”

Harris county sheriff referring to the deputy that got gunned down early am while gassing up his car:

(paraphrased) We face trouble everyday but don’t expect an ambush from the back.

I thought of the NYC cops that were ambushed.

You have to be aware of who is around you.

I lived in that area (NW of Houston) ... not really that bad.

But if I am gassing up at night I survey everyone before I shut my engine off and then keep an eye out for movement towards me, particularly at some of the gas stations on I-10.

In today’s world, better to “gas up” during the day when you are not alone at the pump. But as you say, situational awareness is as important for us as it is for the cops.

Better to gas up at night than to run out of gas at night.

At these stations on I-10 you are never alone. Always a few jokers hanging around the door.

We live in what I would consider a relatively safe area not far from Houston but our family members all decided we would only buy gas in the early morning hours after daybreak. Even though I have a CCL, my unaccompanied nighttime driving is over unless it’s a real emergency. Have always gone wherever I wanted whenever I wanted and really resent having to worry about such issues.

I was driving several times a year from Florida to Houston.

Well you certainly don’t have a choice except to make your driving days really short or stop for gas after dark. We used to drive everywhere in the U.S. straight through with nary a thought. No more and now we have to give a lot of thought to where we will stop for the night, particularly when driving west from Houston on the way to Arizona. Bad enough to get old without finding our freedom to safely do as we wish when we wish has also been taken from us.

Trinity, Texas defines small town America. I’m not sure that it even has more than one traffic signal. This is absolute proof that Obama - Soros war on cops /race war has officially spread coast to coast.
