There are no professional armies in South or Central America. I spent three years (90-93) attempting to train them, it’s all about corruption and pay-offs. I watched officers shoot enlisted soldiers for falling asleep during training. When we were transporting them we would have to stop and collect road kill for them to carry back and cook for dinner.
IIRC, the Argentine army in the Falklands was predominantly recent conscripts.
It’s all fun and games until someone rolls a frag into your tent.
typical 3rd world army: “aristocratic” officers, with levees of draft soldiers. never works.
