Don't listen to DoodleSquat. She is a liberal POS

There is absolutely nothing in the US Constitution either allowing or not allowing secession. The US Constitution is totally silent on the issue.

“Our slow step-child brother, Louisiana would certainly follow, regardless of Jindal or Duke.”

I’m no fan of TX and/or LA seceding. Although I think it possible. More possible than many seem to think.

Houston or Dallas or Baton Rouge burnt to a crisp just doesn’t appeal to me. So put me down in the NO column when it comes to secession.

Most of the people who reside in Texas are citizens of both Texas and the United States. None of their privileges or immunities as citizens of the United States can be abridged by any act or law of Texas.

They can continue to reside as US Citizens if they wish, or they can leave if they wish. Not much of a problem there if you ask me.

However, if enough Texans favored the idea, maybe they could convince the rest of the country to amend the Constitution to permit a "secession."

No need. The founding charter of the nation trumps Constitutional law. It is under the authority of this document and what it represents that the Constitution posses it's borrowed "authority."

If the right asserted in the Declaration is false, then the Constitution is Null and Void, because it is under this right that the nation lays it's own claim to independence.

The Texans can send it back one round at a time.

Maybe Pres. Trump can work a ‘DEAL’ we will let them keep ARKANSAS. Lousyana comes with us (family thing)

TEXAS has a lot of FEDERAL MILITARY Bases, and other significant property, that HAS to figure into any equation involving secession.

Hey, we have NUKES (pointed at deleware) maybe obummer will make a piece of paper with us!

And then there is this from Article VI of the Constitution:

"This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding."

The citizens of the United States living in Texas are entitled to the privileges and immunities that flow from Article VI as well. If you want a new country, you need to find some new soil somewhere. And, as the Israelis can tell you, it's not easy nowadays.

But, again, the most important hurdle is that the people of Texas won't stand for it. Don't you believe that their feelings should count? Of course, you do.

The US Constitution is silent on the issue of secession. Get over it.

There’s little fed land except for bases and land donated either by citizens or the state for national parks. The rest is privately owned land grants as per the Spanish crown and the war of 1836.

Don't you care what your neighbors think? Your neighbors have a right to be protected as citizens of the United States by the government of the United States. You and a few of your friends can't choose for them? You can't cancel their citizenship. Attack your neighbors at your own risk.

Most people (the rest of us) are proud to be Americans and proud of our right to complain about what what we don't like about the country we love. That's one of the reasons that we value our US citizenship.

A few people hate the United States, but even they have to admit that they are free to leave. Some do. Some pretend. It's the "My life is a mess and it's everyone else's fault" group that gets a bit tiresome.

Geez, if I hated this country, I would leave.

The republic is dead in you. Go away.

I'm very happy here in America. You can bet I'm not going anywhere. And, I'll bet you're not going anywhere, either.

You'll figure it out. You just can't look to the government to provide you with happiness. We have to find it for ourselves. I have. Good luck.

... impossible to secede from the United States and to replace the government of the United States with a new national government in Texas without violating the protections afforded to United States citizens...

You must be referring to the rights and privileges that have been abridged already by the US government.

I love Arkansas. It’s beautiful! I loved it as much as I did vermont (land only) because the only difference was vermont has all those planted sugar maples from after the old clear cutting days.

I wish I could tell you that there has been a government somewhere at some time that didn't abuse authority. In math, I think they call that group an empty set.

I don't want to possess the level of political power that can cause too much trouble to anyone. I'm happy to pursue private interests.

And, I don't trust the kind of people who want to possess a lot of political power. It's hard to find anyone to trust these days, but I think it's probably always been that way.

But, isn’t that what Washington, et al. did when declaring independence from England? Declare everyone in America to be citizens of America?
