TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The political careers of several members of Congress — including a Republican seeking to become the next U.S. House speaker — could come to an abrupt halt under a sweeping overhaul of Florida's electoral map.

Florida Circuit Judge Terry Lewis on Friday recommended new boundaries for the state's 27 congressional districts, some of which would make it nearly impossible for U.S. Rep. Dan Webster — one of the hard-line conservatives who pushed John Boehner to resign as speaker and then turned on Boehner's No. 2, Kevin McCarthy — to win re-election from his current central Florida district.

Judges. The apparent real power in america today, along with bureaucrats. Both can dictate laws at will without recourse.

If the framers of our constitutions had wanted judges to set political district boundaries they would have made provisions for that.

This is why it’s not a good idea to elect Daniel Webster as Speaker......he might not have a seat......PLUS he’s a lousy speaker.

Terry P. Lewis is a judge on the Second Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to that court in 1998 by Governor Lawton Chiles.

All we need to know.

Anyone else find it ... ironic, for lack of a better word ... that the league of women voters is represented by ... a man?

” U.S. Rep. Dan Webster — one of the hard-line conservatives who pushed John Boehner to resign as speaker”

Daniel Webster Conservative Review Freedom Rating D - 64%. Maybe not so hardline conservative.

You’re are absolutely right. That, in a nutshell, is our biggest problem.

Elections no longer matter, especially when Republicans win.

Not quite all. Judge Lewis helped to end Al Gore's efforts to steal the presidency in 2000.

Except when they rule against the interests of Democrats, who ignore them.

personally, i’d want the entire districting concept to be nothing more then grid lines. straight horizontal and vertical lines set a certain number of miles apart.

from there, corruption couldn’t even be accused. just random luck.

“resurrecting the political career of former Gov. Charlie Crist, who is expected to run for Congress as a Democrat”

Don’t miss that key point

Obama seeking to control everything after he leaves. His footprints will more on more regulations in 8 years than decades of legislation. This Congress cannot be left in the hands of the GOPe, nor a democrat. No difference between the 2. Wish the RINOs would just bolt the GOP and let the conservatives have their party back. At least we’d have a voice and a choice again.

If elected Speaker, Webster would be unaffected by thus as one does not have to be a sitting House member.

Perhaps the term “A hanging judge” needs to come to describe an entirely different situation - we are living in tyranny.

On the other hand, Terry Lewis presided over the Bush-Gore recount in a very non-partisan manner (and thus incurred the wrath of many liberal pundits).

One district would 2,000,000 and the next would have 37.
