Louie Gohmert, former DA and Judge who believes in the Constitution, would be a good Conservative Speaker.

In other words, no matter what happens, the result will be very bad for conservatives. Nothing new here

>> I don’t really know Daniel Webster, but he has actually been a Speaker of the House, in FL <<

Marco Rubio was also FL’s Speaker. So I guess he too is qualified.

Yep, and don’t forget that within recent decades, two Dhimmi Speakers, Jim Wright and Tom Foley, have also been booted from the job — Wright by his colleagues’ pressure, and Foley by the vote of his home folks.

Anyone with more than three brain cells understands the dog is not trying to catch the car, it is chasing away the car.

So far conservatives have done pretty good at chasing away the GOPe.

Money quote: The next speaker, whoever it is, should have a vision, an ability to communicate that vision, the ability to plot a path to fulfill that vision and the fire to take on not only the Democrats and the White House but the media as well.

Maybe we should choose from the top 25 from this list:

Two Names: Trey Gowdy & Ted Cruz.

Right at the top I see Michele Bachmann, who’s no longer in Congress, but still eligible to be Speaker, as far as I know.

We could make her campaign for Spaaker the Bachman Turn-It-Over Drive.

I think you missed the point. The author is mocking the idea of Webster as a leader, when he has actually done the same job in a different setting. So he and Rubio have the organizational and leadership skills necessary to do the job. That's a different thing than positions on issues. Webster does seem pretty good on those too from what I've heard.

Gowdy doesn’t want it either.

Cruz would know too. As would Tom Delay and Lee Atwater.

Well, as long as being alive is no longer a qualification, I nominate Calvin Coolidge — or even Margaret Thatcher, since the Constitution doesn’t require that the Speaker be a citizen.

>> Delay is still kicking <<

As is his arch-enemy in the former GOP Caucus, Dick Armey.

But I doubt they could win any popularity contests among their old House colleagues, nor among current members. So I’d say no Speakership is in sight for either.

Too bad for Delay, who seems basically to have good character. But I could never extend such a sentiment to Armey.

Armey was originally a staunch conservative, unwavering: he went bad after four or five terms, but his constituents never knew that.

>> Armey was originally a staunch conservative <<

For all I know, he still is a staunch conservative. But no matter, because he appears to be a man of low moral character, if the stories I’ve heard are true.

For example, the story about his spreading a rumor concerning Brit Hume’s son, just after the son committed suicide. Or the story about his double-crossing the rebels against Gingrich, when he learned that the rebels would not back him for Speaker. Or his eight million dollar “arrangement” when he left Freedom Works.
