Ben Carson argued Sunday that abortion should be outlawed in almost all cases, and he likened women who terminate their pregnancies to "slave owners."
Asked on NBCs Meet the Press whether a woman should have the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, Carson, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, acknowledged upfront that the choice of words would be controversial.
During slavery and I know that's one of those words you're not supposed to say, but I'm saying it during slavery, a lot of the slave owners thought that they had the right to do whatever they wanted to that slave, anything that they chose to do. And what if the abolitionists had said: 'You know, I don't believe in slavery. I think it's wrong, but you guys do whatever you want to do'? Where would we be?"

I don't self identify as pro-life. I am an abolitionist.
He’s right.
BEN CARSON - ON SOCIAL ISSUES
Carson has expressed support for same-sex civil unions, and following the Supreme Courts ruling legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, he conceded the fight was over by declaring the ruling the law of the land. (Newsmax)
Despite maintaining a strong pro-life record, in a 1992 interview, Dr. Carson said that while he does not perform abortions, he personally referred women seeking abortions to other doctors. In the same interview, he said that he would never advocate its illegal for a person to get an abortion. (Baltimore Sun)
Dr. Carson co-authored a medical research paper in 1992 where he outlined his support for the use of aborted baby organs for research purposes. Carson defended his past statements, saying, To not use the tissue that is in a tissue bank, regardless of where it comes from, would be foolish. Why would anybody not do that?
Numerous conservatives have expressed that by providing the demand that abortion providers will supply the market and that participating in this practice is being complicit. (Life Site News)
As revelations came to light about Dr. Carson referring the mothers of unborn children with potential birth defects to abortionists, his campaign defended the practice. A campaign spokesman said, he [Carson] believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information. Pressed on whether Carson stands by his decision to do so, the same spokesman said yes. The statement is particularly troubling given that pro-abortion proponents use similar language regarding a decision between the patient and their doctor, but not mentioning the life of the child. (Politico)
Since news surfaced of a 1992 research paper co-authored by Dr. Carson that included the use of fetal tissue, Carons stance on abortion has come under immense scrutiny and his defense of his previous medical decisions has been troubling to many in the pro-life movement. When asked if Carson stands by his past decision to refer patients to abortion doctors, Carsons Communications Director said He believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information.Additionally, the spokesman went on to say that Carson believes that you cant stop abortion by making it illegal. The spokesman told Politico, he [Carson] has always believed that the battle over abortion had to be waged in the hearts and minds of Americans, that you cannot legislate morality. But he also believes were winning the debate. (Politico)
In the 1990s, Carson was a board member of the Baltimore Charitable Foundation which gave $200,000 in grants to Planned Parenthood. When confronted with this fact, and asked if Carson knew about the grants a spokesman said, it doesnt really matter. (Politico)
When asked if he would support abortion in the case of incest or rape, Dr. Carson said, I would hope that they would very quickly avail themselves of the emergency room, and in the emergency room, they have the ability to administer RU-486 and other possibilities before you have a developing fetus. RU-486 is an abortifacient that kills a fertilized egg by artificially denying it the ability to attach to the uterine wall. Using Dr. Carsons own standard of life beginning at conception, this would then constitute murder. (Politico)
During the campaign Dr. Carson has struggled to define when he believes life begins. He told ABC News that life begins when the heart starts beating but later clarified that he meant conception. (Politico)

This would be more convincing if he had been consistent on the issue of abortion. He has not.
Abortion is worse than slavery. The strong controlled the powerless, but at least slaves were seen to have economic value, and were kept alive and maintained in a basic condition of humanity for that reason. An aborted foetus doesn’t even have that value.
I kill you - because you are simply inconvenient to me. You can not get more worthless than that.
I had never thought about it that way, but since having read your comment, I totally see it your way.
~ a fellow abolitionist
I fail to understand how ‘women’s rights’ as a concept has become so intertwined with abortion, and how it ever came to pass that a woman’s right to an abortion supersedes the rights of a developing child - especially in the context of late term and partial birth abortion.
There are consequences to having sex without contraception, and when you make the choice to do this you have become intrinsically responsible for the consequences. Except for sexual assault etc., no one makes you have sex, and no one else but yourself is ultimately responsible if you get pregnant, or get someone pregnant. This is a choice with consequences. Why is it a ‘right’ to ‘choose’ to have no responsibility for your actions?
If a man father’s a child, he is responsible for paying child support. He doesn’t legally have the right to say no. He can’t say, ‘this is going to alter my life dramatically and I have the right to choose how my life is going to be’. Nor should he. He made the upfront choices that led to him fathering a child, and he is and should be held fully responsible. Why is it different for a woman?
He is saying what needs to be said, but sadly most of our society will be hostile towards his message.
And nothing is said by pro abortion media regarding the targeting of women in the womb for death.
That’s real sexism.
Carson is a great man who truly cares about the black community unlike the idiot obama
He is right, but I also heard him say in the past 2 months that he does not see a legal way to legislate morality, but rather by changing hearts and minds...I paraphrase
So there is some inconsistency from him on this, the most important issue.
I wonder what type of Judges he would actually appoint.
When I heard him on this a few months ago it was not clear that he would go after a pro life Judge to overturn these evils.
They all need to be pressed on this most important issue
Sounds like he is pro choice
You’re right. Same principle as slavery. - I also have
kept observing that so many MILLIONS of abortions would
indicate to me at least that a lot of women are using
the abortion “industry” for an after the fact BIRTH
CONTROL method. I wonder how many of them have had
multiple abortions over the years.
He’s right, and he’s going to get the others to comment. Has anyone heard, EXACTLY what Trump feels about this?
Let the mass aneurisms begin.
“....Since news surfaced of a 1992 research paper co-authored by Dr. Carson that included the use of fetal tissue, ....”
I wonder if Carson still feels this way on this and other anti-life issues. For instance, Carson NOW says he does not believe unborn babies, who are a result of rape, should be aborted.
I’m thinking you guys would clearly call yourselves pro-life if it were YOUR lives on the line.
[Carson NOW says he does not believe unborn babies, who are a result of rape, should be aborted.]
None of CARSON’S views changed until AFTER his record and writings were scrutinized. Unlike Trump, there is no explanation for the change. As a physician, it is unbelievable he could not make up his mind when life began in a baby.
What is more worrisome is his attitude towards Black Lives Matter and his top aide’s close ties to Farrakhan.
He’s for amnesty, death panels for the elderly. I wonder what his views are on global warming?
CRUZ and TRUMP are open books - CARSON?
Guess that makes him an "uncle tom."
