Free .22 Ammunition at Gun Show, 2015

Free 22 Ammo 2015

I attended the first gun show of the season in Yuma.  I paid $60 to rent a table and give away free .22 ammunition.  I have more than I will likely shoot in my lifetime, purchased when the prices were much lower.

I could sell it, but the Bible says that generosity is a virtue.  I am curious about human nature. and the lingering lack of .22 on store shelves prompted me to give away some bulk Remington golden bullets.   I used the event to promote the blog where I do most of my writing, Gun Watch.

I gave away the cartridges in 10 round lots.  Most people were reluctant to accept "free" ammo.  They needed a  "catch".  I included a business card for Gun Watch and told them that they had to go to the blog and read at least one article.  I emphasized that there were no advertisements, no annoying videos to load that commandeered your computer for 10 minutes, and no forms to fill out full of personal information before you could see the site.   I explained that most of the articles were short, and included pictures.

The exchange was on the honor system; they got the ammo, and I expected them to read a blog article.  I warned them that it was addictive; once they went to the site, they would find themselves going back to it often.   Members of the gun culture are one of the most honorable groups that I have met.  In the 15 years that I taught concealed carry classes in Yuma, I always accepted personal checks, and I never lost money on that bet.

Many gun show attendees indicated that they had a sufficient "stash" of .22 ammunition, much of it obtained after the "bubble" had inflated.

I enjoy Dean Weingarten’s articles. He’s a great, level-headed authority on gun issues.

Thanks Dean. You gonna roam the streets OC after the show to terrify women and young children? LOL! Probably not much of an issue in a lot of AZ less the more populated cities.

I open carry most of the time, but I have not seen any terrified women or children. Maybe a couple of concerned Canadians...

LOL! So they’d more than likely run screaming in fear if they saw me with a lit marlboro than you totin’ open? Seems like there’s not much concern when folks OC in Reno either. Curiosity gets me and I pay more attention trying to see what someone is carrying than any concern for them carrying.

In the back office of my local gun store is a cardboard freeway off ramp sign that reads; Will work for ammo.

You can get bricks of 500+ right now for $25 if you shop. I just don’t recall how that compares to pre-obama gun tyranny.

I would respectfully submit that Dean Weingarten was not “giving away” 22 ammunition.

He was offering to trade ammunition, in exchange for recipients’ time and attention.

He did extract merely their promise, it’s true. Their promise to visit his blog and read at least one article.

Not every trade involves an exchange of goods or services for money (or an equivalent amount of different goods or services).

Outsiders - those not a party to the trade - may question the terms of it, or the judgment and good sense of the trading parties. But things generally run better - society at large is better served - if outsiders do not interfere.

Are there any places with “in stock” .22LR less than 6 cents per round yet? I’ve been waiting since 2010...

Good morning,

I saw the deal earlier but I don’t recall exactly what deal site it was. I tried to find it but didn’t see the same one. Here is one you can check daily that are very close. You can review the store if you are not familiar with them, this is a great resource fore firearms as well. Cheers and good luck!

This was available about 7 weeks ago:

The problem is, everytime President Obama starts pushing for more infringements on the Second Amendment, demand picks up!

The Cabelas online site had the 1400 round Remington ‘Bucket of Bullets’ for just a bit over 6 cents per round earlier this morning.

Yeah I saw that but it is some of the dirtiest ammo out there. Also some kind of bait and switch there @ Cabelas as it was originally listed at $69.99 but when you clicked the link it switched it to $89.99 and they put free shipping at $99+ so you are forced to buy $10 more of filler to get to that price per round. I’m specifically looking for CCI Mini Mag. Has that stuff been extinct since 2008? I recall several years ago I was desperate enough to pay IIRC $30 or $40 for a box of 100 of that in a yellowed out jewel box and faded paper insert.

And since then I’ve only purchased maybe 4 or 5 boxes of 50 .22LR @ Walmart. So since 2010 I have 300 rounds of .22 LR and it took 5 years to get that and with that limited amount I have yet to take my never fired S&W M&P .22 to the range. Go figure as the one reason I bought the M&P was the theory back in 2010 that shooting .22LR was much cheaper than 9mm when going to the range. I still say today, good luck finding it. I had 5 year backorders on Sportsman’s Guide that never amounted to me receiving any .22LR orders and I may have had 5000-10000 rounds on backorder. So much for the $30 Sportsman’s Guide Buyer’s Club membership that is non-refundable, and I got squat.

In 2011 or 12, I believe it was before the Connecticut shooting, I was able to buy Federal Champion in 325 round bulk packs for $9.99, with free shipping, no limit.

Then Obama got re-elected, and the .22 bubble inflated, big-time.

I like the Federal Champion ammo. It works well in my firearms.

I would love to help you out, but the haz-mat fees make sending small quantities un-economic.

Maybe we will attend a conference together, then I can bring some ammo in my truck, if I do not fly there...
