Winter storm Bella dumps 16 inches of snow on the Midwest in the heaviest recorded November snowstorm for a hundred years

People fired up snowblowers and dug out their shovels Saturday after the first significant snowstorm of the season dumped up to 20 inches of snow across the Upper Midwest - blanketing a swath from South Dakota to Michigan.

The storm created hazardous travel conditions and caused more than 500 flight cancellations. A blast of much colder air was following the storm.

The National Weather Service said the snow, which first fell in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa on Friday, would head northeast into Canada late Saturday after moving through Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.

I haven't been out this morning but we probably ended up with a bit more than a foot here in Southern Michigan

And now to make people jealous, the latest forecast says it’ll be 60 degrees and sunny on Friday, where I live.

There were snowmobiles out and around late last night.

Supposed to be up in the 50s by thanksgiving.

At least it didn’t happen over the Thanksgiving holiday where thousands would be stranded in airports.

Looks like it’s going to warm up a bit in the midwest next week, so that should aid the melting process.

I thought it was warming?

Oh or is it warming in the summer, and cooling in he winter? That weather micro aggression really needs to stop. Especially in our safe spaces.

So, if they had a heavier snow 100 years ago, what was the reason for it being heavier one hundred years ago?

I remarked to niteowl77 yesterday that this was one of the more impressive pre-Thanksgiving snowfalls I could remember. It was quite pretty, and - thankfully - it wasn't accompanied by a lot of wind.

This storm did team up with deferred snowblower maintenance to kick my over-the-hill butt up and down our driveway. Most of the day was spent shoveling or replacing snow blower parts, neither of which are my favorite weekend pastimes. As usual, Al Gore did not bother showing up to help me remove all this evidence of global warming.

The NWS does NOT name winter storms. That is The Global Warming Channel’s BS. Daily Mail is stupid for conflating it.
