The Russian leader also warned it would have serious consequences for his country's relations with Turkey
A Russian rescue helicopter has been shot down by Syrian rebels while searching for pilots missing after Turkey downed a Russian jet.
The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in a government-held area in Syria's Latakia province.
A Syrian insurgent group, which uses U.S. Tow missiles, said its fighters hit the helicopter with an anti-tank missile.
Video footage has emerged online appearing to show the helicopter after it crashed in dense woodland.
Plumes of smoke can be seen coming from the aircraft.
Vladmir Putin earlier warned Turkey of "significant consequences" after the Russian plane was shot down.

Any comment from old man McCain?
This is red linked top left of Drudge right now.
So now we have a Russian helicopter shot down by U.S. backed Syrian Rebels.
This is not good.
Shooting down a rescue helicopter? Now thats a way to piss people off.
McCain is probably happy as a Jack@ss.
Yep and Putin was already pissed.
But not shocking.
Actually, probably designed by the administration. This country’s voters disgust me.
Reagan took down communism by fierce will and determination.
Obummer has that same will to protect islam at ANY COST, even if it means dragging us into WWIII to protect those moon god worshiping pieces of filth.
It’s really getting close to that time folks.
I wish Cruz would take the initiative.
Hope Turkey has nukes! Russia got a lesson the deserve to get. Somehow they got the impression they can go anywhere with total impunity.
As - sort of - Fred Thompson would say:
“This business will get out of hand. It will get out of hand and we’ll be lucky to live through it.”
Yes, that is another level.
Probably along the lines of the Russians deserved it for antagonizing the terrorists and due to this America should go to war with Russia to defend the.........terrorists.
“Somehow they got the impression they can go anywhere with total impunity.”
So does the US. Obama has been backing the Syrian rebels (read: ISIS in disguise) and ISIS. Russia has been destroying them.
Here is the video:

Video appears to show Syrian rebels shooting grounded Russian helicopter; @kileysky explains http://trib.al/ShbthXL
Remember what the Middle East was like before Hillary and Obama set it on fire for their buddies Soros and the Saudis?
We need to start talking about what our exit strategy is going to be from Obama/Clinton/McCain’s failed Syrian adventure.
Makes you wonder.
Condolences to Russia for this and the fighter jet shot by Turkey. Keep cool heads, keep focused, thank you for fighting this awful battle, and may you WIN!
We need to help Russia.
I see Al-Qaeda used a U.S. TOW missile to take out a rescue helicopter.
Gee who supplied and trained Al-Qaeda with U.S. weapons?
That's not something anyone can just fire. You have to know what you are doing.
I do not understand why Obama seems to hate Putin to a pathological degree yet he coddles terrorist monsters as “troubled souls.” He makes to sense but to say he is evil. Anyway, let’s hope he has not just started WW3.
People in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones. Russia’s “anywhere” is a heck of a lot closer to Russia than our anywhere. The U.S., especially under Obama, has been meddling all over the world in idiotic ways. Turkey may not like Russian intervention at places near their border, but they need to figure if they want in or out, and whose side they are on.
If they want to get into a pissing contest with Russia, so long as they keep NATO out of it, it’s their funeral.
