Gun Stocks Soar Ahead Of Obama's Gun-Control Executive-Action Tomorrow

OBAMA, THE GUN SALESMAN OF THE YEAR

Despite a bloodbath in US equities, gun stocks are soaring this morning (Smith & Wesson up 7% and Sturm, Ruger up 3%) as ABC News reports, as we detailed yesterday:

With the Oregon standoff continuing, it appears "the world's greatest gun sales-man" has done it again.

As we previously noted, without a Democratic majority in Congress, and faced with a GOP that is firmly against any form of gun control measures, Obama has repeatedly warned that he would act on his own.

“We know that we can’t stop every act of violence. But what if we tried to stop even one?” Obama added. “What if Congress did something—anything—to protect our kids from gun violence?”

"The president has made clear he’s not satisfied with where we are and expects that work to be completed soon," the White House spokesman added. In other words, it's time for the president to micromanage yet another aspect of daily US lives, because Obamacare turned out so well.

One executive action that will almost certainly be unveiled is the "tightening" of rules for firearms sellers by requiring more of them to be licensed and, as a result, to conduct background checks on buyers.

Anything Obama does unveil will be met with stiff resistance.

Many gun-rights groups already have signaled opposition to new rules for private sellers and an expansion of background checks. And they have questioned whether Mr. Obama has the legal authority to act unilaterally.

Research by the National Rifle Association showed that dating back to the 2007 mass murder at Virginia Tech, none of the high-profile mass shootings has been conducted600 with a firearm bought from a private seller. Adam Lanza is believed to have stolen his mother’s gun after killing her then using it in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

“I don’t think the president has the authority to redefine what a dealer is because that is defined in existing federal statute,” said Dave Workman, senior editor of the Second Amendment Foundation’s The Gun Mag. “He can’t snap his fingers and suddenly say to someone who sells a gun at a gun show is now a dealer. That would take congressional action.”

Meanwhile, while the US wait to see what executive orders Obama will implement, at the state level numerous gun-related laws just kicked in starting in the new year.

...

Ironically, instead of implementing executive orders, what Obama should do instead if he wants to make an immediate change, is focus on his home state. According to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago's first homicide of 2016 occurred barely 2 hours into the new year.

Two people were shot in the 4600 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue at about 2 a.m., police said. One of them, a 24-year-old man, reportedly had been arguing with someone who pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest. He was declared dead on the scene.

In the latest homicide, a 36-year-old man was shot in the chest and died at a hospital, said Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department. The shooting happened at 6:40 a.m. in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Trainor. The victim was driving a sport-utility vehicle westbound on Garfield when he heard shots and realized he’d been wounded, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police. The 36-year-old was driven to the Artesian Avenue and 55th Street where an ambulance was called and he was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died, Trainor said.

In short, eradicating gun violence in Chicago (and D.C.) would likely do miracles for the average gun homicide rate across all of the US. Which is why it will never happen.

Meanwhile, if Obama wants to truly curb gun ownership at the national level, the solution there is also simple, as the following chart from the NYT reveals:

He should resign.

Did you ever think that Barry might just have some secret stock in gun companies? Stranger things have happened.

To paraphrase Zuzu in It's a Wonderful Life, Every time Obama opens his mouth, a gun dealer says "ca-ching!"

Why do many seem to interchange the terms Executive Orders vs Executive Actions? This article uses both terms for the same anticipated Presidential proclamation.

We have some SWHC. It’s done fine, we bought many years ago when it was down near $3. I expected it to rise today because Obama was making a statement about guns. When they talk about restricting guns, the stock always seems to go up. I wasn’t expecting quite this strong a performance today.

From a related thread . . .

Patriots please note that the Supreme Court had clarified in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer that executive orders do not have the force of law unless legislatively supported by Congress, provided that such legislation is also reasonably justifiable under Congresss constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers. So what is going on with Obamas unconstitutional unilateral executive orders is the following imo.

Noting that Congress has the constitutional authority to stop lawless Obama from stealing legislative branch powers to make unconstitutional executive orders, please consider the following. Pro-gun control RINO lawmakers are wrongly letting Obama do their dirty legislative work for them so that they can keep their voting records clean. And keeping their voting records clean will help gun-control lawmakers to be reelected this year.

Note that Congress also lets activist justices and non-elected federal bureaucrats steal legislative branch powers so that justices and bureucrats can likewise do Congresss dirty work for it so that lawmakers can keep their voting records clean for reelection purposes.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump, or whatever conservative they elect as president, they also need to do this. They need to elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support the new president, while prohibiting the corrupt executive and judicial branches, along with Constitution-ignoring federal bureaucrats, from stealing legislative branch powers.

Also consider that such a Congress would probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.

Questions:

What was the production capacity of 22LR in 2007?

What is the production capacity in 2016?

How much was produced in those and the intervening years?

How much did the gov't buy in those years?

How much was exported in those years?

According to industry spokesmen it started in 2009 when soetoro got selected.Lots of people bought.22s because they're cheap and easy to shoot.

Also lots of non-gun people had Granpa's .22 in the closet.

At the time you could buy 1000 rds for about $25 and every body started stocking up on it.

Hey, it's no .308 but you can put somebody down at 200 yds.

It's not worth it for them to invest in new tooling for a demand that will eventually bottom out.

Supply is now starting to catch up with demand.

Agree on all points ...... when sheep dipped to alphabet agencies overseas we used beretta 70S or 71’s in 22 for PDW’s. Brick of mini mags and 5 spare mags and we (6 man team) could hold the floor of a hotel until the cavalry got there..... A .22 is a viable defense round. I’ve seen me use it....:O)

Here in Merica .... IMHO an adult should own a .22 Rifle, a 30 caliber bolt gun with a GOOD scope, a 12 gauge Shotgun and a Revolver at the very minimum.

That's why I've always been intrigued by the 5.7x28mm.

Seems like they set out to reimagine the .22lr with all the self defense issues ironed out.

Centerfire .22 cartridge, jacketed bullet, light weight, high capacity, high velocity.

The only problems I see are the high price tag for the weapons, and black hole you find when trying to find reports of real-world performance.

Been playing around with the Armscor Rock Island TCM 1911 with the Staggered mag. It came with a 9mm spare barrel and spring yet 22TCM is primary caliber out of the box.

Love it !

Weary of bottle neck round like 44WCF, 357SIG, .224Timbs, 224BOZ etc as under hard use they tend to slip or creep or setback in the case. Even with factory ammo. 7.62x25 Tok being the exception....

Still a Beretta 70S/71 fan for a concealable little .22.
