The last “conservative” politician that I fully supported was GW Bush. That is, until the moment he sided with Vicente Fox against United States Patriots. Immigration was my number one issue then, as it is now.
I’ve never thought of Mr. Trump as a conservative, nor do I care what “label” he is given, or what liberal leanings he has in other areas. Mr. Trump is correct on immigration - the influx of illegals of all kinds are ruining this country. I support him on that ONE issue alone.
Cruz wouldn’t make DEALS with democrats, Trump will.
We also need to remember those DEALS Cruz won’t be making with democrats includes not making DEALs to cover up the corruption which is going to spill over to the GOPe not just dems.
I'm not so sure. Romney was very popular for a while around here. Many of us were called "traitors" (and worse) for refusing to vote for a liberal.
Now, two years later and with the rise of Trump, it also appears overall site activity and donations are down. Perhaps there is a link.
“No kidding. One of the most disheartening things about the Trump candidacy has been to watch Trump supporters denounce long time conservatives after they warned that Trump is not one of us. Regardless of who the person was theyâve been savaged for not being faithful to the new faith of conservatism as preached by the TV reality star turned populist âconservative.â Many of those denounced have been conservatives going back before Ronald Reagan was President.”
The people who support Trump are realists and educated ones at that. You have not seen the Conservative alive to campaign today that will make abortion illegal, repeal LGBT rights, reverse gay marriage, or any of the things that Conservatives say they “stand for.” Those things aren’t going to be addressed with any effectiveness until Our Lord returns. So what, may I ask, is it that you expect your “Conservative” candidate to do for us if he’s elected?
America is in trouble right now and we need a leader who can address some of the problems right now. Trump is that man. If this was the America of fifty years ago, we would have all the time in the world for Conservatives, Moderates and Liberals to sit in the Halls of Congress and thrash out solutions and argue the pros and cons. We simply don’t have that time anymore as a nation.
Sometimes I think a lot of Conservatives have hopelessly entertwined their politics with their religion. Only Our Lord Jesus Christ can heal the soul of Americans from the things we’ve allowed to come upon us in a moral sense. No politician ever will. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has the know how to remedy our failing manufacturing industry, address the problems of our open borders and our image in the world at large. I don’t ask my doctor, my dentist, or my optometrist if they’re Christians or if they’re Conservatives before I let them perform their service for me. I only care to know if they are qualified to do their jobs to my satisfaction. I’ve always chosen my elected officials the same way. Right now, my way of life is in danger, not my faith. I think Donald Trump can salvage America and that’s why I support him. It’s my country that’s in danger, not my soul.
“You have some proof he was there even once?’
Don’t need any proof I’m using the Trump standard.
Just ask a question declare it a serious issue then leave it up to the other person to prove otherwise.
Funny how Trump seems to use the same tactics as his good friend Hillary Clinton.
What, you though Hillary and Trump had a monopoly on that little game.
What I do know about Trump, he showered the Clintons with praise and money after B Clinton gave the Chinese missile tech which enabled them to target the US with nukes.
I guess we remember things differently.
“Trump is as real as a Reality TV star. Itâs that type of ability to brazenly bamboozle that ought to give folks a warning that they need to pause and think.”
The ability to brazenly bamboozle has been perfected by politicians. You should heed your own warning in that respect.
Oh, I see. Donald Trump flip flops. But when it comes to Ted Cruz and the HB1 visas; Cruz “changed his mind.”
Yes, I see how that works.
Thanks for posting that. Wonder if any Trumpets would like to defend their candidate’s insult to Reagan?
Real Conservatives don’t support single payer
Trump continues to play to peoples fantasies. The ultimate gopE.
Oh, hey, I get it. And you wouldn’t care if the only proof you had that your dentist or doctor was able to do that job was his word. Donald, with all the modesty of a professional wrestler (another arena where he performed as a goofball, by the way), tells you he is the man to be president. He’s never held an elected office, not once. Never. Yet he can be taken at his word. Note that he’s written a book discussing how important hyperbole is, and he’s demonstrated great success with his bragging and balderdash. But his experiences as a crony capitalist and his vast inherited wealth make him an ideal choice to fix what’s wrong with America, he says. Well some people must be entwining religion with politics since they are dealing in blind faith when it comes to accepting Trump for president based only on his own Testimonial to his capabilities. Maybe he could start below president to fix all that is wrong with the USA.
Agreed. Trump is not a Conservative.
He is a right-leaning Populist.
IMHO that is the best we can hope for this election cycle.
Too many voters out there simply will not vote for a Conservative due to 2+ decades of D.C. Republicans tarnishing the brand.
Sucks, but that’s how it is.
So would you rather have Trump or Bernie Sanders?
You’re right FR did used to be a conservative website, and in an objective sense, it still is.
But “conservative” has become a sort of bastardized code word for “what the liberal media hates”, and has been been associated with racism, homophobism, intolerant anti-Islamism, sexism, and pretty much composed of a bunch of old angry white men. You know, and I know, that the true sense of “conservative” is nothing like that.
So in a sense, The Donald, while not conforming to the older sense of “conservative”, is still an iconoclast that is busting up all the Politically Correct horse pucky that has people in fear of saying ANYTHING. Clearly, The Donald has demolished what he terms to be “low-energy” potential contenders for the Presidency, and while people do not think he has clearly articulated his positions, he has come out strongly on immigration, the Second Amendment, and taxing and spending policy. The Donald also criticizes the ineptitude of our foreign policy, painting it as an inability to sit down with adversaries across the table and hammer out deals which provide mutual benefit to BOTH sides, and not the one-sided giveaway programs that only further drain what is left of the concept once known as “the United States of America”.
The Donald is very much a populist, he has found a parade, and he has gotten around in front of it.
As far as The Donald gaining the nomination of the Republican party, the establishment types will finally, grudgingly, allow it, because while The Donald may not have a large majority of the Republican primary voters, in the winner-take-all plan for a particular state’s convention votes, so cleverly contrived by the Establishment, gives the votes to the person with the largest plurality, and so far, The Donald has been able to attract that all along.
I do. That’s why I’m not supporting Trump. Trump gave money to all kinds of Democrats, including the Clintons. Trump praised Hillary and said she’d make a great president. Trump said Bill’s perjury, obstruction of justice, and sexual harassment did not matter. Trump had the Clintons at his third wedding and has hobnobbed with them over the years. They’ve been close. He’s only turned on them now because they’re in his way. What is it about that biography that doesn’t scream, “Phony!” You just to ignore his character because it doesn’t matter since he’s told you his so smart. Smart enough to fool some of the people some of the time but not all of us all of the time, to borrow from an honest Republican politician.
In a contest of Democrat vs Democrat Lite, the Democrat wins every time. We need a conservative. That conservative is Ted Cruz.
“Heâs never held an elected office, not once. Never.”
And that, in my book, is one HUGE plus! Trump has been out here with us in the real world.
No, you're talking out of your troll ass.
No need to reply, in fact, don't.
So being president is as important as being a dentist or doctor or not so? I ask because I assume you would not want an amateur with no experience working on your teeth or acting as your doctor. But you might consider that lack of knowledge a HUGE plus, like Trump.
