Is the Trump campaign morphing into the Giuliani campaign Part II?
Self

Posted on 01/16/2016 11:40:15 AM PST by dschapin

Now that Trump is making his defense of New York values the centerpiece of his campaign and doing that by making everything about 911 it seems to me like his campaign is sounding more and more like Giuliani 2.0. Here are the reasons I am thinking so.

1. He is trying to wrap himself and his New York values in 9/11 heroism.

2. His supporters don't seem to care about the fact that he publically attributed his support for partial birth abortion to growing up in New York City.

3. Many of his supporters seem to be quite happy to write off social conservatism and social conservatives completely.

4. His campaign has become all about being a strong leader with a personality cult.

5. All of the sudden much of the Gope and the liberal media is on his side while he defends their social liberalism from Senator Cruz.

So, I have to ask. Is Free Republic really going to support Trump now that he has morphed into Giuliani 2.0?

Trump is defining himself as the new Giuliani in this race. I don't think this will end well.

Say what you will. Trump the outsider is all of the sudden cuddling right up to the New York city liberal elites and the media elites. Are you sure that if he is elected you wont be on the outside looking in and wondering how you got so duped.

Now that is has been revealed that Cruz failed to disclose a loan from Goldman Sachs and has to re-file documentation much like the Clinton Foundation, are you really going to support Hillary 3.0?

You are ready to sell the whole social conservative wing of the conservative movement down the river for that?

Yea, I don’t think so.

Cruz is pretty well much toast from here on out. He’s still my 2nd pick right after Trump, but when people ... ordinary people not Fr savvy people start hearing. Mother U.S citizen, Father a Cuban, then Candian citizen didn’t become a naturalized U.S citizen until 2005 and Cruz did not renounce his Canadian Citizenship until this past year.

Uh? Where did all the Obama birthers go?

What nonsense. Trump simply defended his own state and city’s courage and loyalty against Cruz’s nonsense “values” crap. It was a bitchslap in which Mr. Cruz gave a soggy little handclap to avoid looking like Dan Quayle after an encounter with Lloyd Bentson. Trump has never used the term “New York Values.” That’s Cruz stuff.

More like Cruz had abandoned his effect campaign strategy to go all out in attacking Trump and abandoned taking about the issues. He is just doing the same thing as Rand, Walker, Jindal and the rest. Fine, it’s his right. He wants to win. But he is no longer sticking to the issues. He just another win at all costs politican. I get it he has to take on Trump. Well he was doing fine without attacking anyone. The eligibility situation freaked him out. Oh well.

We will never vote for this Democrat blowhard. Conservatives are being marginalized once again, so millions of us will stay home on Election Day once again. It will be interesting to see how an open Socialist treats the rich.

Having grown up in Up-state NY, I’d never confuse NYC with the outstate.

No he isn’t. Cruz thought he was being oh so clever by dissing Trump for his NY values. Trump gave s heart felt and honest response.

Get over your own self all ready

Are you going to parrot the TDS posters and media (oh, and Cruz) with lies and half truths? Are you going to use Trump’s views from 20 years ago and excuse Cruz’s from 18 months ago?

I keep reading about how Trump supporters are low information voters, and Trump has a cult like following.

It really appears that the reverse is true. Cruz has some very low information voters who have excuses for every one of his inconsistencies, every negative item that is uncovered on him, and desperately twist the constitution to prove he can be your savior. That really smacks of a cult like following.

Yes he is. His supporters, however are in a trance, blinding them to reality. I hope they are happy with their Trump/Kasich ticket.

>>4. His campaign has become all about being a strong leader with a personality cult.

Do you know what a leader is not? A leader is not a person who stands up and says, “I am your leader. You will now follow me.” A leader is also not a person who says, “You must follow me because we believe the same things.”

In the former, the person has done nothing to earn the right to take the lead. In the latter, the person has demonstrated nothing that proves that he should lead.

Here’s what a leader is: they are a person who possesses traits that followers find desirable in a particular situation and at a particular time.

Cruz has the qualities of sharing our values very closely and is a strong member of the conservative movement, but he lacks the qualities we seek in a leader. Trump is not as strong in the conservative values as Cruz, but his leadership qualities are superior to ANYONE in the race.

And they are superior by an order of magnitude!

So, what is the job of the president? He LEADS. He has to work with a Congress that might disagree with him, but he has to have the ability to lead them in a direction that he chooses. He doesn’t engage in endless debates with them. He doesn’t negotiate from a position of weakness.

He uses his bully pulpit to lead the nation—all of it—at the same time.

Cruz should be front-runner and we should all be following him. What went wrong? You believe that we are all closet leftists or mind-controlled Trumpbots. But, the truth is that Cruz failed to LEAD and that is because he lacked the qualities that we were looking for in a leader in this very crucial time where America has run without leadership for more than a decade (the second term of GWB was devoid of leadership). His failure is not our fault. It is his.
