The fight heats up

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz returned fire on establishment Republicans Thursday, including former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, who suggested that Cruz would fare worse in a general election than Donald Trump.

Speaking to reporters following a campaign stop in New Hampshire, Cruz said Dole, among others, were looking to continue the "cronyism" and "corruption" of Washington. "If you think of the last time we beat the Washington cartel it was 1980, it was the Reagan revolution, where millions of Americans rose up," Cruz said. "And I would note that Mr. Dole then opposed Reagan, and said we need someone who can go to Washington who can cut a deal. Well the American people understood that's not what we needed." ...

Trump attacked Mclame.

I think it is called responding to the fire. Is he to lie down and play dead?
Cruz is underestimated, especially as long as DT puts up the phony BC, GS, ethanol attacks. He looks like a small man and thus makes looks Cruz bigger. I know, I know the polls.
Look at some internals.
Cruz has the best internals. Even in NH 30% say they will never vote for Trump. 4% say they will never vote for Cruz. This may well translate at the polling booths.

Dole, Hatch, Burr.........your boy is building up a nice Establishment list there.

Not that it matters right? He's going to make America great again........even if that means working with the boys all Conservatives despise.

Unless you are not a Conservative at all, then it's just the art of deal.

I am just amazed that Trump supporters are not concerned that all of the sudden the establishment is on board with Trump. The GOPe does not want Cruz because POTUS controls the party’s pick for all key leadership party positions. You think McConnell has a chance running the Senate PACs? But with Trump, all these guys stay.

Well I don't see any direct charge of corruption against anyone in particular here.

But its beyond debate that the Washington DC clique is corrupt.

It hasn't backfired on Trump yet. And he has yet to prove even a single one of his dastardly attacks on Cruz.
Further Cruz is exactly right. Bob Dole is the GOPe. He attacked Reagan when Reagan was running for president using exactly the same language he is using against Ted Cruz. The result? Reagan won an unprecedented 49 states.

Seriously. I liked Cruz at the start of this campaign. But he’s really starting to look like the crazy neighbor who thinks his house is bugged. Trump has played him beautifully. Whatever Cruz says these days reinforces the “maniac” perception. All Cruz does is complain and moan about the cartel and the establishment. We know they are corrupt. What is Cruz going to do to get anything done except complain about it?

Absolutely no one can reasonably argue Cruz is part of the problem in Washington, D.C. He is the solution to the corruption.

This thread is hilarious, some of you are losing your minds. Trump an establishment candidate? Huh? So let me get this right, he never served a day in public office, served in the party apparatus, never was a political consultant, lobbyist or so much as a congressional page but he is a party hack now. Ok let's get further down the rabbit hole. So Trump supported the Clintons, is a closet Democrat, is a stealth liberal yet he is really an establishment Republican. Yea makes sense to me. Trump has not taken a dime of party money yet he is in the back pocket of the party. This again makes more sense to me.

I can't wait to see how bad a losers you guys are when Cruz gets the floor wiped with him in the primaries. Some of you will probably grab your hunting rifles and go hole up somewhere in the mountains, muttering about how the government is really a secret cabal of grey aliens. You know your basic mouth breathing bitter wingnut.

I like Ted Cruz, but some of his supporters as witnessed here are really insufferable.

Why would they need to when Cruz & his supporters are swimming in it?

If Trump wins, I win

If Cruz wins, I win

If Hillary wins, we all lose.

I prefer Cruz, and increasingly distrust Trump... But the Strange Brew reference was made me smile. Good one.

Why would Cruz trash Jeb Bush or anyone else Willy nilly?
Cruz is attacking Trump because Trump has been attacking Cruz non-stop for over 5 weeks. Its called counterattack.
Even so Cruz has kept it very classy. Trump is a classless, nasty, brutish, empty headed moron. And I am being really nice to the fella.

Would be nice if we had a link to see if that headline is backed up inside.

“Ted Cruz Slams Bob Dole and Donald Trump as Corrupt Establishment Leaders”

Trump is not an establishment leader.

Ted is in the establishment. Trump isn’t.

Ted is a sitting Senator in Washington.

If Hillary wins, FreeRepublic will consist of 4 years of one side of the Trump/Cruz debate blaming the other side for not supporting the nominee.

It will be like a nuclear winter. Lol

For reasons it’s pointless to go into, I don’t see Cruz as the next Reagan. Some of you do. So be it.

Dole has been a waste of time for decades in Washington, but I think Ted has gone round the bend trying to equate Trump as being like Dole.

Ted is the sitting Senator. Trump just entered politics.

Dole's an old guy who hasn't done anything for people to object to for a few decades. What does Cruz gain by picking on an old guy he never served in the US Senate with and hasn't done anything to derail Cruz?

Dole preferring Trump as less of a threat to the party? So what?
